Gillian Anderson gave nine years of her life to The X-Files which ended in 2002. She also appeared in the two full-length feature films spawned opposite series co-star David Duchovny. Since then she diversified her body of work, starring in several literary adaptations. This included roles as Lady Dedlock in Bleak House, Lily Bart in The House of Mirth, and Miss Havisham in the BBC’s Great Expectations.

Recently, the 54-year-old has enjoyed success portraying former U.K Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in Netflix’s The Crown. Although she only played the character for six episodes, Gillian Anderson did a lot of research to give an accurate performance. “I watched every video there was to be watched,” the actress told The Sun in 2020.

Gillian Anderson did her best to study everything about the former Prime Minister, from her manner and religion, to how she walked, talked, and moved. “Getting into that wig definitely helped,” she told the publication. But she admitted that it took quite some time to research her. The actress also explained how she spent months listening to her interviews with headphones all day long.

Now that her time on The Crown is over, Gillian Anderson is working on a few other projects. The first is an upcoming gothic horror mystery called The Pale Blue Eye. Written and directed by Scott Cooper, the story is adapted from Louis Bayard’s 2003 novel of the same name. The film features an ensemble cast led by Christian Bale and Harry Melling. It also features Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney, Timothy Spall, and Robert Duvall.

Set in 1830, the plot follows a veteran detective named Augustus Landor who investigates a series of murders at the United States Military Academy located in West Point, New York. There he is aided by Edgar Allan Poe, a young cadet at the academy. The Pale Blue Eye, featuring Gillian Anderson, will be released in select theaters on December 23, 2022, before its Netflix streaming release on January 6, 2023.

Gillian Anderson is also set to appear in White Bird: A Wonder Story. Billed as a war drama, the movie is directed by Marc Forster from a script by Mark Bomback. Based on the 2019 graphic novel of the same name by R. J. Palacio, the film also stars Ariella Glaser, Orlando Schwerdt, Bryce Gheisar, and Helen Mirren. The movie was initially set for release on September 16, 2022, but was later delayed and removed from Lionsgate’s release schedule.
