Disney Star Says Doing Porn Is More Fun And Makes Her More Money
Boy Meets World star Maitland Ward enjoys making porn much more than television, especially since the sex industry pays her better.
Boy Meets World alum Maitland Ward says her career in pornography is more rewarding than working in network television. The actress joined the cast of the popular coming-of-age ABC sitcom as Rachel McGuire in the show’s sixth season. Now, she’s among the highest-paid porn stars in the world. “I make so much more money. I have so much more control, and I am having so much more fun,” the 45-year-old said of her new gig.
In her new memoir titled Rated X: How Porn Liberated Me from Hollywood, Maitland Ward chronicles her journey from child star to adult content superstar. But while the career switch has been profitable, she told Entrepreneur it was never her intention. The actress now earns six figures a month from OnlyFans and five figures from sex toy company Fleshlight. She earns an additional six figures per year from her contract with a pornography site called Deeper.
In total, her annual income is almost 10 times her Hollywood salary. Along with Boy Meets World, which was eventually syndicated to Disney, she also starred in the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful and the movie White Chicks. “Don’t get me wrong. I was paid well in Hollywood, but nothing near what I am making now,” Maitland Ward told the publication. These days, the x-rated star also enjoys a level of freedom and control that wasn’t an option in her previous career.
“Hollywood kind of typecast me and shunned me as this sitcom girl,” Maitland Ward added. In her memoir, the actress also writes about the sleazy encounters she had on the set of Boy Meets World. In one instance she claims producers wanted her to try on lingerie in their office. Since Rachel was the only character that regularly removed her clothing, this type of request was ongoing. By contrast, the 45-year-old said her porn career is free of sexism drama and she’s free to build her own brand.
Interestingly, Maitland Ward says she started working in adult films by accident. Her journey began when the risqué photos she shared on social media were routinely flagged and removed. That’s when some of her followers suggested she open a Patreon account. “Honestly, I never thought about content to make money,” she explained. The actress said she was just showing her authentic self.
After her first week on the new platform, Maitland Ward had 2800 patrons paying her $15 to $300 a month for her content. And she quickly became the number one adult creator on the site. But since Patreon only allowed her to post nudes, the actress joined OnlyFans in 2019. That’s when her career as an adult entertainer soared. She began publishing porn videos shot by her husband and quickly amassed around 28,000 subscribers.
Users pay her $500 for two-minute custom videos in which she acts out a fantasy using their name. The move launched Maitland Ward’s career into mainstream pornography where she commands the highest fee per scene in the industry for Deeper. When asked to comment on detractors who call her “desperate,” the 45-year-old says she’s not going to follow anyone else’s rules because it’s important to be authentic with yourself.
