Netflix Enola Holmes 2 Reviews Are Just What You’d Expect
Enola Holmes 2 is receiving positive reviews from both critics and viewers, much the same as the first film did.
Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill have a new movie out today on Netflix, and the reviews from critics are pouring in as audiences finally get a chance to see the two Holmes siblings in action once again. Enola Holmes 2 is the sequel to the wildly popular 2020 feature film, Enola Holmes, and so far critics have adored the sequel just as much as they enjoyed the original. Based on the young adult novelization of Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister, Enola Holmes 2 is currently ranked by Rotten Tomatoes with a Tomatometer score of 92% based on 48 critics’ reviews, as well as an Audience Score of 76% based on over 100 ratings from users to the site.
Many major critics have so far taken a liking to Enola Holmes 2, bolstering its chances of climbing into one of the top ten spots on Netflix’s trending movies over this upcoming weekend. Ema Sasic of Next Best Picture remarked in her review that many of the plot’s twists in Enola Holmes 2 “are as satisfying as they were in the first film, if not even more, thanks to the true story of workers’ rights that the film is based on.” Similarly, Kevin Harley of Total Film notes that the movie proves to have “a rousing climax and some threequel seeds worked in,” building on the possibility that this might not be the last audiences see of Millie Bobby Brown’s energetic detective character.
Similar to the critical reception that Enola Holmes received when it was released on Netflix, Enola Holmes 2 is shaping up to be an acclaimed sequel for the subscription streaming platform and all of the actors involved. Enola Holmes earned the coveted marker of Certified Fresh from Rotten Tomatoes two years ago, with a Tomatometer ranking of 91% and an Audience Score of 70%, so there is still time for more reviews from critics to come into the website to find out if the sequel can achieve the high remarks that its predecessor obtained. The sequel sees a return of characters from Enola Holmes played by talented British actors like Louis Partridge, Susie Wokoma, Adeel Akhtar, and Helena Bonham Carter, as well as some fresh faces in The Sandman actor David Thewlis and Sharon Duncan-Brewster.
Enola Holmes was released on Netflix on September 23, 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the distribution rights of the original film to transfer from a theatrical release by Warner Bros. Pictures to a Netflix release that went straight to streaming. Enola Holmes 2 launched on the same streaming platform and seems to pick up right after the events of the first movie, where Millie Bobby Brown’s titular character is starting her own detective agency like her older brother Sherlock, played by Henry Cavill. The initial film costarred Sam Claflin as Enola’s oldest brother Mycroft Holmes, although Claflin was unavailable to film the sequel and so the filmmakers chose to center Enola Holmes 2 around Cavill and Brown’s characters primarily.
Directed by Harry Bradbeer from a screenplay by Jack Thorne, Enola Holmes 2 is sure to be a winner for Netflix as it’s currently garnering generally favorable reviews. While Enola Holmes was based on the book series by Nancy Springer, the sequel is a completely original story using the same characters from the series. Time will tell if Enola Holmes 2 can beat out the original when it comes to critical reception and views from audiences starting today.
