Daniel Craig is going to star in an upcoming Disney+ series for Marvel, in which he will portray the Asgardian warrior, Balder the Brave. According to our trusted and proven sources, Daniel Craig will finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the half-brother of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Cate Blanchett’s Hela, and (by adoption) Tom Hiddleston’s Loki for his own show on Disney’s streaming platform. More and more A-list stars have been flocking to the MCU as of late, and it seems Daniel Craig is just the latest.

Daniel Craig was actually already supposed to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Balder the Brave, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. At one point, it was planned that Balder the Brave would be one of the group known as the Illuminati encountered by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in a parallel reality, along with Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart, reprising his role from the Fox X-Men movies), Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), Captain Britain (Hayley Atwell), and the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards (John Krasinski).

However, at some point, Daniel Craig’s Marvel character was cut from the film and no scenes were filmed for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Recently, concept art of the character was released, which presumably will also be used for a Daniel Craig Marvel series.

It is not known what the plot of a Daniel Craig Disney+ series would involve, though there is plenty of material featuring Balder the Brave in Marvel Comics to adapt. In comic book canon, Balder is the half-brother of Thor and technically, the heir to the throne of Asgard after the (periodic) passing of their father Odin and Thor’s refusal to become king. He also is known to be widely loved and revered by the Asgardian peoples as both a member of the royal family and one of the Gods’ most skilled warriors.

At this point in the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, Asgard has been destroyed by the fire demon Surtur along with Hela, and Thor has refused the throne, ceding it to Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). By the point of Thor: Love and Thunder, Valkyrie is King of New Asgard on Earth, which could raise a conflict of Balder arriving in the refugee kingdom and asserting his own claim to leadership. While Balder the Brave has generally been portrayed as a noble and heroic figure, it will be interesting to see what Daniel Craig brings to the character for Marvel.

Aside from his imminent arrival as a Nordic god, Daniel Craig has his own new film franchise apart from Marvel. Since leaving behind the role of James Bond with No Time to Die, the actor has slipped into the character of Benoit Blanc, gentleman detective, in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out series of mystery films. He recently starred in the second installment, titled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, with a third film already announced.

It seems that Daniel Craig has become quite the franchise hopper, and we are excited to see what he brings to Marvel.
