Tony Danza was once a prominent television actor, appearing in dozens of made-for-TV movies and various shows throughout his career, but over the last few years, his projects have been few and far between. His last major role was in 2018 where he portrayed the character Tony Caruso Sr. on the Netflix series The Good Cop. According to Deadline, the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated actor is returning to television in a big way, as he’s landed a recurring role in the upcoming third season of the hit series Power Book III: Raising Kanan.
The outlet reports that Tony Danza has been cast in the role of Stefano Marchetti, the godfather of New York City’s mob scene. If anybody intends to conduct business in the city, they need to seek permission from him first or suffer the consequences. The character is set to debut in the Season 2 finale before appearing regularly in the third season, which is currently in production in the Big Apple.
Tony Danza will appear in Power Book III: Raising Kanan alongside series regulars MeKai Curtis and Patina Miller, and the show is one of the multiple spin-offs of Starz’s hit series Power, which ran for a total of six seasons through February 2020. Other installments of the Power Universe include Book II: Ghost and Book IV: Force. A fifth show, Power V: Influence, was announced at one point, but the project was canceled by the network over the summer.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan is an origin story for the titular Kanan Stark, with the adult version of the character, who was portrayed by Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, serving as the ultimate antagonist in the original Power series. Raising Kanan centers on the titular character’s journey into the world of crime through his moth Raquel ‘Raq’ Thomas, who oversees the family’s drug empire. Stefano Marchetti (Tony Danza) looks to be positioned as the third season’s primary baddie.
Aside from joining the Power Universe, Tony Danza is staying active in the television world with several projects in the pipeline. He’s set to appear in a sequel series for Who’s The Boss?, which is currently in development at Amazon Freevee. Set 30 years after the original show, the project will reunite him and his small-screen daughter Alyssa Milano.
Tony Danza is also set to appear in the Silas Howard-directed fantasy drama Darby in the Dead alongside Riele Downs, Kylie Liya Page, Genneya Walton, and Chosen Jacobs. The movie centers on Darby Harper, who is granted the gift to see ghosts after a near-death experience that occurred in her childhood. In her spare time, she runs a side business counseling local spirits.
Finally, Deadline confirmed earlier this week that Tony Danza has joined the cast of HBO Max’s And Just Like That. He’s set to portray the father of Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) in the television sitcom. The series centers on a trio of women as they navigate the journey from the complex reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.
