When she’s not saving the world from Marvel’s greatest supervillains, Brie Larson spends her downtime listening to rock music. Over the weekend, the actress shared a video of herself dancing at an LCD Soundsystem concert. In the 12-second clip, which she cleverly captioned “POV you’re sitting next to me at a concert,” the 33-year-old is seen swaying to the music with her arms in the air. The carefree moment comes as the star prepares to release two blockbuster films in 2023.
Before suiting up for The Marvels, Brie Larson will appear in Fast X as Tess. The movie, also known as Fast & Furious 10, is directed by Louis Leterrier from a script by Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau. Although her role within the story remains unclear, the actress will appear alongside franchise favorites like Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena, and Jordana Brewster. The movie is set for release on May 19, 2023, with a sequel following in February 2024.
However, the Fast X cast has been drip-feeding fans teasers about what to expect from Brie Larson’s character. In a post on social media, Vin Diesel seemed to suggest that Tess would not be joining Dominic Toretto’s inner circle any time soon. “There is love and laughter in this image,” he said alongside a photo with the actress. But he said what fans don’t see is the character everyone will be introduced to in the film. He went on to cryptically say that her role will add something no one might expect, but have yearned for.
After Fast X is released, Brie Larson will star in the highly anticipated Captain Marvel sequel. Directed by Nia DaCosta from a screenplay by Megan McDonnell, The Marvels will also star Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, and Samuel L. Jackson. The story begins after the events of Ms. Marvel, when Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau begin swapping places every time they use their powers. To fix this very inconvenient problem, the trio team up to figure out the cause. The movie is set for release on July 28, 2023.
When the first footage of The Marvels was screened at the D23 Expo, Brie Larson talked about how the sequel will be a turning point for her character. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said fans will see a new side of Carol Danvers as she learns to relinquish some control, realizes that she makes mistakes, and needs help. “It’s the beginning of this new phase for her,” the actress told the publication.
She also told Good Morning America that The Marvels will take a deeper dive into her character’s complexities which reveals that Carol can sometimes be flawed. Brie Larson explained that the first movie was the origin story of who she is, saying there’s much more to her than that now. “There are parts that are not so great about her, that we can see a hero is not being the person that makes every right decision all the time,” she told viewers.
