The Fate Of Josh Brolin’s New Show Has Been Decided
Josh Brolin's Outer Range has been green-lit for a second season by Amazon Prime Video.
For those Amazon Prime Video subscribers finding themselves addicted to the Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) led mysterious sci-fi series, Outer Range, we’ve got some great news for you. The streaming platform has officially ordered a second season of the show! This means that more bizarre happenings on that ranch in Wyoming are just around the corner.
The first season of Josh Brolin’s latest project, Outer Range, began in April and introduced audiences to the hardworking rancher family, the Abbotts. Down on their luck in more ways than one, the skilled cattle drivers were not only dealing with the strange vanishing of their daughter-in-law Rebecca, but they were also at odds with their neighbors, the Tillersons.
Very different in business than the Abbotts, the Tillersons are a family with a money-driven farm and with their eyes locked in on land that belongs to the Abbotts. After another questionable disappearance turned murder investigation happens on the property, the community becomes embroiled in the alien-like happenings that all culminate when a black void appears in the Abbotts’ pasture.
Along with Josh Brolin, the series also stars the likes of Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later), Lili Taylor (Perry Mason), Tamara Podemski (Four Sheets to the Wind), Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), Tom Pelphrey (Ozark), Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek), Shaun Sipos (Krypton), Isabel Arraiza (The Little Things), Olive Abercrombie (The Haunting of Hill House), and Will Patton (Yellowstone).
While a cast listing for the second season hasn’t been released at this time, we’re presuming that at the very least, Josh Brolin will be returning to Outer Range’s sophomore year. One big change for this upcoming season is that the project’s original showrunner, Brian Watkins who also created the series, will be stepping down. Set to replace him as showrunner will be Charles Murray who has a slew of credits to his name from penning and executive producing Luke Cage to serving as a writer and director on Sons of Anarchy.
Along with starring, Josh Brolin will also serve Outer Range Season 2 as an executive producer. He’ll be joined by Murray, Watkins, Zev Borrow, Heather Rae, Tony Krantz, and Plan B Entertainment for Amazon Studios. Of those working for Plan B will be some familiar names including Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Ernest McNealey.
While he gears up for a second season of Outer Range, Josh Brolin has a full docket of upcoming projects to keep himself busy with. Of course, there’s the second installment of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune in which Brolin will appear alongside a stacked cast including the return of Timothé Chalamet, Rebecca Furguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Barden, with new-to-the universe actors such as Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux. With filming well underway, Dune: Part Two is eyeing a release in November 2023.
And then there’s Max Barbakow’s Brothers which will see Josh Brolin take on a different role than we’re used to seeing him play in projects like Outer Range and No Country for Old Men. In the comedy co-penned by Etan Cohen and Macon Blair, Brolin will star opposite Peter Dinklage as a pair of siblings. At this time, no further information has been released surrounding this piece.
