In the ever-growing saga that is the public life of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, it appears that the latter is set to write a tell-all book about her experiences growing up in Baltimore and her complicated marriage to husband Will. The star of 2017’s Girls Trip and The Matrix series of films seems to have a lot to say about the various journeys she has been on, from friendships with the late rapper Tupac Shakur to her ongoing battle with depression. Will Smith and his wife Jada were at the center of a media firestorm earlier this year at the Academy Awards, so this new tell-all book may be coming out just in time for the two of them to have career comebacks.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Jada Pinkett Smith secured a deal with an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers to write a memoir to examine the actor’s struggles with suicidal depression and her ongoing marital controversies with Will Smith. Jada Pinkett Smith grew up in Baltimore in what the announcement refers to as an “unconventional upbringing,” and the performer will discuss her diagnosis of alopecia areata that has resulted in complete hair loss. The hair loss was the butt of an infamous joke by comedian Chris Rock at the Academy Awards, upon which Will Smith stormed the Oscars stage to slap Rock in front of millions of television viewers.

While Chris Rock has mostly stayed away from discussing the slap from the Academy Awards with multiple news outlets, Will Smith has gone on record to defend his actions and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, while simultaneously apologizing. Will Smith will soon be promoting his newest film, Emancipation, which will be released on AppleTV+ this December, even though Smith has been barred from attending the Academy Awards for the foreseeable future. On the other hand, Jada has had great success with her Facebook Watch series Red Table Talk, in which the actor, her mother, and daughter Willow Smith are featured.

Jada Pinkett Smith rose to fame as a cast member on A Different World in the early 1990s, a spin-off of the Bill Cosby primetime comedy, The Cosby Show, with Lisa Bonet in the lead role. Since then, she has been featured as part of the ensemble casts of hit films like Menace II SocietyThe Nutty Professor with Eddie MurphyScream 2, and Bad Moms opposite Christina Applegate, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn. Smith recently capped off her participation in The Matrix franchise by co-starring as her character Niobe in 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections alongside franchise star Keanu Reeves.

The tell-all book from Jada Pinkett Smith will no doubt showcase stories about the Oscars slap, but it will also detail the actor’s bout with depression that sidelined her career in the past. Her love story and subsequent marital woes with her husband, Will Smith, will most likely take center stage. However, it’s her role as a mother that Smith seems to be most proud of, so the book will seek to highlight motherhood both from her perspective and that of her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris.
