Jennifer Lopez is back at the movies and the trailer for her upcoming project Shotgun Wedding looks like a good time — for the audience at least. In the trailer, we see Jennifer Lopez’s Darcy and Josh Duhamel’s destination go completely off the rails when pirates show up uninvited. Lopez is a rom-com master, and this looks like she’ll get a chance to flex those muscles and her action movie chops as well.

Shotgun Wedding tells the story of Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) who find their wedding attack, just when they were about to get cold feet and call it off. The two team up to save their families and they just might rediscover their love in the meantime. Along with Lopez and Duhamel, the film stars Jennifer Coolidge, D’Arcy Carden, Melissa Hunter, Callie Hernandez, Cheech Martin, Sonia Braga Steve Coulter, Alberto Isaac, Alex Mallari Jr, Hector Anibal, and Desmin Borges.

Although Shotgun Wedding looks like absolute chaos, Jennifer Lopez recently tied the knot in real life, and it presumably went a little smoother. Lopez married her partner Ben Affleck twice this summer — once in Vegas for a small ceremony and then a much bigger affair at Affleck’s Georgia estate. While Lopez is enjoying her nuptial bliss, it certainly doesn’t seem like it’s slowed down her career at all.

Shotgun Wedding should be the next film we see from Jennifer Lopez, but she has another film lined up that’s shooting for a 2023 release date with the Netflix project The Mother. The Mother will be a hard shift from Lopez’s last couple of projects, as it will be a drama focusing on an assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she gave up. The film is directed by Niki Caro and stars Lopez along with Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick, and Gael García Bernal.

If lighthearted wedding-themed romantic comedies like Marry Me and Shotgun Wedding were Jennifer Lopez’s theme for 2022, it seems like her theme for 2023 and beyond will be full-on dramatic. Along with The Mother, Jennifer Lopez will also be playing the Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in the biopic The Godmother. According to Entertainment Weekly, Reed Morano is in talks to direct the film and William Monahan is in talks to rewrite the screenplay that was originally penned by The Sopranos writer Terence Winter and Deadwood writer Regina Corrado.

Jennifer Lopez also will be dipping into the world of sci-fi with the film Atlas, which will follow an AI soldier that determines the only way to stop a war is to end humanity. Atlas will star Lopez along with Simu Liu, Lana Parrilla, Sterling K. Brown, Abraham Popoola, Justin Walker White, and Adia Smith-Eriksson. There’s no word on a release date yet for Atlas.

Shotgun Wedding does have a release date and it’ll be Jennifer Lopez’s first big film of the New Year. The film will be coming out on January 27. Make sure to check it out on Amazon Prime Video.
