The 90s cult classic Son in Law, starring actor Pauly Shore is available to stream on Hulu. Excited to see fans rediscover his film, Shore celebrated on social media and channeled his classic Weasel persona. Safe to say that fans of the film are just as excited as Shore is about it being on a major streaming service.

Fans of the 90s cult classic began retweeting quotes of the film on social media. One person even claimed that Son in Law is one of the best comedies of all time. Others wrote that the Pauly Shore comedy being on Hulu brings back memories of their childhood.

The film was directed by Steve Rash, who also directed the Bring It On direct-to-DVD sequels. In addition to Pauly Shore, the film stars Brendan Fraser, who reprised his role as Linkovich “Link” Chomovsky from Encino Man. Shore was considering starring in a New Line Cinema project before eventually deciding to stay with Disney and star in the comedy.

Pauly Shore debuted as a stand-up comedian after deciding to follow in his parent’s footsteps. He debuted at the Alley Cat Bistro in Culver City and was mentored by famous stand-up comedian Sam Kinison. During his run as a stand-up comedian, Shore developed an alter ego persona called “The Weasel.”

His big break came as an on-air MTV VJ. Pauly Shore would go on to have his own show on the network, Totally Pauly, which saw the comedian serve as the host for MTV’s annual Spring Break party. He wouldn’t receive major attention in the industry until his breakthrough performance in the 1992 film Encino Man.

Despite receiving negative reviews, Encino Man became a modest box office hit. The film centers on two teenagers who discover a caveman in their backyard. Pauly Shore played a character named Stanley “Stoney” Brown.

The film ended up testing well with audiences. The executives at Disney expected audiences to be familiar with Pauly Shore’s work on MTV and that he would bring eyes to the project. Encino Man went on to earn a total of over $40 million at the North American box office against a budget of around $7 million.

Pauly Shore recently spoke about the possibility of an Encino Man sequel. While speaking with Inverse, he revealed that the folks at Disney were “talking about the possibility of making a sequel” but said they were caveats, specifically regarding nailing down the script. Perhaps with the recent comeback of Brendan Fraser, discussions of an Encino Man sequel may be starting again.

Whether or not an Encino Man sequel ever becomes a reality remains to be seen. Fans of Pauly Shore are just happy to see one of his movies on Hulu. While discussing the film with Screen Rant, Shore compared people’s reactions to watching his films to when they see him perform on stage.

Pauly Shore said that fans feel a bit of nostalgia whenever they come across a film of his. Although he admits that some within the industry make fun of his movies, he appreciates that “it brought food to [his] table.”
