Stranger Things has erupted into one of the most successful television shows in Netflix history. The most recent season of the series has now jumped into the #2 most viewed show in the history of the streaming platform, only sitting behind Squid Game. Though the fifth season is meant to be the last, there could be a Stranger Things Cinematic Universe on the way.

Shawn Levy, executive producer and director of Stranger Things, revealed this information during a recent interview. According to Levy, “Yes, we are building out the STCU, and now that I’m spending time with [chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment] Kevin Feige, I’m learning a lot about how to manage a universe.” This is huge news considering everyone thought the series would be ending after the final season airs on Netflix, and that he is asking Kevin Feige how to go about creating an expansive cinematic universe.

Quite honestly, it is not surprising that Stranger Things is going to be building out a cinematic universe. The Duffer Brothers have created something quite special, and to see the series not have a few spinoffs would be criminal. There are plenty of characters that deserve their stories to be continued. Also, the newest season saw many episodes creep into the 1-hour and 30-minute range, so it would make sense for a cinematic universe to be created.

The Stranger Things universe is vast, though it is revolved around the kids from Hawkins. Still, there are a lot of people that are likely affected by the Upside Down, though we don’t get to see their lives being turned, well, upside down. Also, there have been a lot of characters that could be expanded that would please fans.

One such character we would love to see get a bigger backstory in Stranger Things is Enzo. Enzo was the man that helped save Hopper. However, he was eager to do so when he discovered Hopper was an American that was cast in the Russian prison he was a guard.

Still, it made us wonder if Enzo had done this before, considering he set the price to get him freed. Also, Crazy Yuri is another character that deserves to have a fully explained backstory in the future of this Stranger Things cinematic universe.

Those are just two of the great characters that were showcased in Stranger Things Season 4. There are far more than could theoretically get their time to shine. The previously mentioned Russian prison also housed a Demogorgon. How did they capture such a fierce beast, to begin with?

With how popular Stranger Things has become, we can expect that the final season might catapult the series into the #1 spot on Netflix for most watched series. Even if that does not happen, we know that fans will be clamoring for more stories based in this universe.

Stranger Things has become a cultural phenomenon, and we would love to see Shawn Levy and The Duffer Brothers continue this exciting franchise. We might even see a Stranger Things theatrical release in the future. For now, Levy is doing things the right way by consulting with Kevin Feige on how to build a cinematic universe.
