Last year, news broke that Taylor Sheridan had inked a massive $200 million deal to create shows for Paramount+ over several years. Sheridan, who co-created the hit series Yellowstone, has several other television shows in the works for the streaming platform including 1923, 6666, Tulsa King, Bass Reeves, and the CIA drama Lioness. When does this guy find the time to sleep?
Recently, Variety learned that three new actors have been added to the cast of Lioness. James Jordan, LaMonica Garrett, and Dave Annable have all joined the series, which was co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Jill Wagner. All three actors have previously worked with Sheridan on other projects.
Jordan has popped up on multiple shows with Sheridan including Yellowstone, 1883, Mayors of Kingstown and in his films Wind River and Those Who Wish Me Dead. Annable appeared on Yellowstone, while Garrett appeared on the show’s prequel series 1883. They join previously announced actors Zoe Saldana and Laysla DeOliveira.
Based on a real-life CIA program, Lioness centers on a Marine recruited to befriend the daughter of a known terrorist to bring the organization down from the inside. Saldana will play the head of the Lioness program in the new series from Taylor Sheridan. Her character is responsible for training and leading the undercover female operatives tasked with assassinating the world’s most dangerous terrorists. According to Variety, Jordan will play the character Two Cups, Garrett will portray Tucker, and Annable has landed the role of Neil. Two Cups and Tucker are operatives on Joe’s team, while Neil is the husband of Joe.
Taylor Sheridan created Lioness and he’s also an executive producer on the series. Back in June, Variety reported he had taken over as showrunner on the upcoming drama, which is currently without a premiere date. In addition to headlining the show, Saldana will also serve as executive producer along with Nicole Kidman, Michael Malone, and co-creator Jill Wagner.
2022 has been an incredibly busy year for Taylor Sheridan. Yellowstone will return for its fifth season on November 13th. While previous seasons of the popular series had 10 episodes each, the upcoming season will be divided into two parts for a total of 14 episodes. Premiering the same day as Yellowstone season five, Tulsa King stars Sylvester Stallone as a violent East Coast mobster who has been exiled to Oklahoma for his past and ordered to reestablish his organization’s presence in the city. The upcoming crime series was co-created by Sheridan and Terence Winter.
1923 is another Yellowstone spin-off that Taylor Sheridan has been hard at work on. The upcoming drama will serve as a prequel series to Yellowstone and a follow-up to 1883. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are attached to star in the show that will take place during the Great Depression. Although no release date has been confirmed, Sheridan is looking at a December 2022 premiere for the spin-off.
While we anxiously await the release of Lioness, Tulsa King, 1923, and the other various projects Taylor Sheridan has in the works, you can stream the first four seasons of Yellowstone on Peacock, and Mayors of Kingstown and 1883 on Paramount+.
