A Fan-Favorite Comedian Has Joined Reese Witherspoon’s New Series
Reese Witherspoon is part of one of the most popular shows on TV, and the new season for that show has now added a fan-favorite comedian.
A television series about a television series can sound a bit meta if you have never indulged in them before. From Aaron Sorkin’s Sportsnight in the 1990s to his more recent hard-hitting drama, The Newsroom, there is a bevy of shows in between. The Loudest Voice centers around the rise and fall of Fox News tycoon Roger Ailes. Great News attempted to get a little lighter with a Tina Fey-driven comedy. Maybe the most recent success in the genre belongs to Apple TV’s The Morning Show. While it was released to mediocre reviews and wasn’t streaming into every household, the series’ first two seasons brought home eight Emmy nominations (one win so far) and seven Golden Globes. The stellar cast of the series is to thank in large part for the success, and that cast just landed another dynamic name in Tig Notaro.
According to a report by Deadline, the upcoming Season 3 of The Morning Show has added the veteran comedian in a regular role. She joins an already stacked cast of Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carrell, Billy Crudup, Juliana Margolis, and Mark Duplass. Tig Notaro’s addition also comes alongside the additions of Nicole Beharie and Jon Hamm. According to the report, Notaro will be portraying Amanda Robinson, the chief of staff to Jon Hamm’s character, a corporate big wig named Paul Marks. While she may be perfectly suited to play a satirical version of Rachel Maddow, it doesn’t seem that her time on the series will be in front of the camera. Instead, she will undoubtedly be herding the cats of a powerful man’s empire.
Tig Notaro’s dynamic personality developed early in life. No doubt partly inherited from a mother who liked to paint elephants on the outside of their home in Mississippi. She dropped out of high school in the ninth grade when she was failing three classes due to her inability to focus on her studies. Instead, she was focused on entertaining those around her. She knew then her life was in show business. She is best known for her role in the semi-autobiographical series, One Mississippi and her recurring role on Star Trek: Discovery. To date, one of her most prominent film roles was going toe to toe with a zombie hoard alongside Dave Bautista in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. Her role as the helicopter pilot was surprisingly one of the best parts of the film, the effortless comedic timing seemingly coming more easily for her than the others.
Comedians are some of the most highly sought-after performers in the industry as they often bring levity to scenes or series that handle heavy topics. While Tig Notaro is certainly someone that can do that, she is also talented enough to carry more serious scenes on her own. It will be interesting to see her play off the likes of Jon Hamm, Jennifer Aniston, and Reece Witherspoon. Her new role could be the opportunity she needs to spread her wings and etch her name alongside other comedians like Steve Carrell, Kevin Hart, and others who are now some of the top billed actors in the industry.
