Star Wars: Andor Is Making One Very Different And Good Decision For A Star Wars Show
Star Wars: Andor is doing something different for the franchise and we think it was definitely the right decision.
While CGI and visual effect artistry has been a fantastic development in the movie industry, many fans of franchises like Star Wars long for the days of putting a greater focus on practical effects. As far as the upcoming Star Wars: Andor goes, it looks like these fans will get their wish. According to actress Adria Arjona, Disney went all out constructing a full outdoor set that could as big as “three to five city blocks” according to Arjona.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that CGI won’t be used to good effect in the series. As always, the most convincing films and series are made using a blend of practical and CG. Star Wars: Andor will surely be doing the same, but it is cool to imagine a full-on Star Wars city built just for the 12-episode series. Disney clearly has faith that Andor will be a success, as they’ve already ordered a second season of the show. The set should serve them well for the entirety of the series, so it’s not surprising that they invested a lot of time and money into making it realistic.
Star Wars: Andor wouldn’t be the first time that Disney decided to do something innovative to make the Star Wars world more believable. For The Mandalorian, they used an innovative filmmaking technology that used LED screens instead of green screens. Not only did this look great, but it gave the actors a better sense of place. In addition to creating a full-on minicity for the series, Andor looks to provide an interesting new story angle for viewers, as the series will focus be a spy thriller that will explore aspects of the universe we haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with in previous properties. With Tony Gilroy serving as the showrunner, it should definitely be an interesting project.
Star Wars: Andor takes place five years before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story told the story of the group of rebels who stole the plans for the Death Star. Plans that would eventually lead to the Death Star’s destruction, saving the galaxy as a whole. Diego Luna reprises his role as Cassian Andor, as he begins his path toward becoming a hero of the Rebellion. Other cast members include Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgard, Fiona Shaw, Forest Whitaker, and more. We won’t have to wait much longer to catch Andor on our home screens. The series will be premiering on Disney+ on September 21.
Along with Andor, we’ll be getting two more Star Wars projects before the year is over. The animated Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be returning for a second season and will continue to follow Clone Force 99 in the years after Order 66. A new animated series called Tales of the Jedi will also be premiering this year. The animated anthology will consist of six episodes, with half of the episodes following former Jedi Ahsoka Tano and the other half following Count Dooku.
