We’ve got some bad news for fans of Jennifer Garner who have been waiting to hear more about the actress’ latest project, My Glory Was I Had Such Friends. It would seem as though the Alias star’s schedule was a bit too packed, leading her to drop the series from her lineup. With Garner no longer involved, Apple TV+ has decided to fully pull the plug on the whole shebang, news that Deadline first broke over the weekend.

Jennifer Garner wasn’t the only huge name attached to the production with J.J. Abrams backing it via his Bad Robot. Warner Bros. TV is set to work alongside the multi-hyphenated creative’s Bad Robot on the project that the two plan to move forward with elsewhere in the future. Acting as an adaptation of the Amy Silverstein memoir of the same name, My Glory Was I Had Such Friends was a touching tale of friendship as one woman’s friends rally around her while she awaits news surrounding her second heart transplant. Immediately recognizing that Silverstein’s book would make an excellent on-screen production, Bad Robot snatched up its rights back in 2017.

However, not all hope is lost for those waiting for Jennifer Garner’s return to the small screen. The actress is currently working on another novel-to-series adaptation with Apple TV+, that one being Laura Dave’s The Last Thing He Told Me. Like My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, The Last Thing He Told Me has another huge name in production tied to it – that being Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine. The number one selling mystery-thriller, which found itself a spot on Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club reading list, tells the story of one woman’s struggle to uncover the secret life of her husband who has vanished into thin air. Along with Garner, the series is set to star Angourie Rice, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Aisha Tyler, Geoff Stults, John Harlan Kim, and Augusto Aguilera.

Ryan Reynolds and Jennifer Garner in The Adam Project (2022)

It’s been a minute since audiences have seen the Elektra star for more than one or two episodes on a televised series. While she may have risen to super stardom for her role on the spy series Alias, in recent days, Jennifer Garner has stuck to projects of the big screen variety. Earlier this year, she appeared opposite Ryan Reynolds in Shawn Levy and Netflix’s sci-fi action comedy, The Adam Project. Prior to that, she took on the role of a tightly wound matriarch in 2021’s family action comedy, Yes Day.

While it’s an absolute bummer that Jennifer Garner and Apple TV+ won’t be moving forward with My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, it is fully within the realm of possibilities that we’ll see another network and leading lady pick up the piece to give it its small screen telling. Seeing as how the rights were sought out and fought over by several studios, there’s no chance that Bad Robot won’t be pushing it via a different platform. As of right now, we can at least pull some happiness in knowing that Garner will soon be on Apple TV+ starring as a woman peeling back the layers of truth in The Last Thing He Told Me.
