Christina Ricci had an amazing start to her career, playing characters in beloved franchises like The Addams Family and Casper. However, if you ask Ricci herself, her performance in the latter film was nothing to write home about. In a recent interview on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, Ricci admits that while Casper is a wonderful film, she thinks her performance in it was “terrible.” She explained further, “I am terrible in it. I was 13. There was a lot going on in my life. Everything was very difficult. I was just always annoyed, and I just don’t think I tried very hard, to tell you the truth.”

Being a child actor can’t be easy, and many people probably enjoyed Christina Ricci’s performance even if she didn’t. The Casper movie is a childhood classic, featuring the friendly ghost from Harvey Comics. Ricci played a young girl named Kat Harvey who moves into a haunted mansion with her father, played by Bill Pullman. Whether Ricci thinks her performance was terrible or not, there are plenty of kids and adults alike who continue to enjoy the family-friendly flick to this day.

Since her days as a young Hollywood star, Christina Ricci has become an acclaimed actor, appearing in a variety of quality projects that she’s probably much more proud of. One of her recent prominent roles is in the hit Showtime series Yellowjackets. The series follows a high school girl soccer team after they survive a plane crash in the Canadian wilderness. The storyline is split between that plane crash and the modern day, with Ricci playing a grown-up version of one of the teens. For her performance in Season 1, Ricci earned an Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy nomination. The series is confirmed to be coming back for a second season with Elijah Wood joining the cast in a key role.

Yellowjackets has certainly been an exciting project for Christina Ricci, but fans of her childhood work will surely be excited about her next big TV project. Ricci is returning to the world of The Addams Family in the upcoming TV series Wednesday. Of course, Ricci played the titular daughter of the gothic family in The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. While we don’t know who she’ll be playing in the upcoming Wednesday series, it’s been confirmed that she’ll have a major role. Jenna Ortega will be taking over the role of the young Wednesday Addams from Ricci. The series will follow Wednesday as she works on mastering her psychic abilities while solving a mystery that involves her parents. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luiz Guzman will be playing Morticia and Gomez. The cast is rounded out by Emma Myers, Jamie McShane, Joy Sunday, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Thora Birch, and more. Fittingly, Tim Burton executive produces and directs the series, which is supposed to come to Netflix this fall.

While Christina Ricci might not be happy with some of her earlier roles, there’s no doubt about her acting talent these days. Be sure to watch out for her in the second season of Yellowjackets and the upcoming first season of Wednesday to find out what her mystery role will be. And if you want to see her newest project, you won’t have to wait long. Her horror film Monstrous releases on August 25.
