HBO Max Is Cutting Another Massive Number Of Titles
This article is more than 2 years old
You’re going to want to use up your sick days and paid-time-off when you hear today’s news surrounding some of the biggest and most well loved titles on HBO Max. According to Variety, the streaming platform is preparing to give the ax to somewhere around 36 titles in the very, very near future. With the company’s recent decision to team up with Discovery+, it seems that while new titles are coming in, others are on their way out.
The news comes following the previous cutting of several Warner Bros. films and HBO series including Camping, Vinyl, Mrs. Fletcher, and Run. HBO Max has so far seen the loss of Generation, Infinity Train, 12 Dates of Christmas, and The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo, the latter of which being a spinoff of the beloved children’s series, Sesame Street. Part of the reason for which titles stay and which go comes to what the costs for each is. With the merger underway, the network is attempting to stick to their budget and remove shows and movies that may not be raking in the money quite as well as others.
The chances that HBO Max will be cutting your favorite production is pretty slim as most of the content on its way out will be coming from the bottom of the streaming barrel, but we’ve got the full list (so far) for you here. Cartoon Network has found a home streaming their pieces on the platform and of their productions we’re bidding farewell to Dodo, Elliott From Earth, Mao Mao, Heroes of Pure Heart, Mighty Magiswords, OK K.O.! – Let’s Be Heroes, Uncle Grandpa, and Victor and Valentino. A much shorter list, HBO Originals include My Dinner with Herve and Share.
As for HBO Max Originals, you’ll want to get in one final watch of the aforementioned 12 Dates of Christmas, Infinity Train, The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo, and Generation, About Last Night, Aquaman: King of Atlantis, Close Enough, Ellen’s Next Great Designer, Esme & Roy, The Fungies!, Generation Hustle, Little Ellen, My Mom, Your Dad, Odo, Ravi Patel’s Pursuit of Happiness, Summer Camp Island, The Runaway Bunny, Theodosia, Tig n’ Seek, and Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs. And finally, acquired titles including Detention Adventure, Messy Goes to Okido, Mia’s Magic Playground, The Ollie & Moon Show, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, Make It Big, Make It Small, and Squish will also be bowing out sometime soon.
While this is obviously a giant upset for the network and those who have been dedicated to watching the now cut productions over the years, we know that with the merger will come a slew of more and possibly even better projects to sink our eyes and ears into. In a statement, a representative for HBO Max stated that both streaming services would be doing an overhaul – an out with the old, in with the new switch up if you will. Because of this, we can expect to hear about even more content making its way into the vault in the approaching days. It’s unclear yet as to whether these titles will be available for at home viewing via DVD in the future.
