In the last few months, Pete Davidson was dumped by Kim Kardashian and left his job as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. Don’t feel bad for the 28-year-old comedian, however: he appears to have landed on his feet professionally. He has a new romantic comedy coming out–with Kaley Cuoco as the love interest, no less–and now we know when we can see it. According to a report from Deadline, Meet Cute will premiere on the Peacock streaming service on Wednesday, September 21. The film marks the first big test for Pete Davidson, to see if he can move on from his success on SNL. Some official stills from the film also made it onto social media, although an official trailer has yet to be released.

In the film, Kaley Cuoco plays Sheila, who seems to meet the love of her life in Gary, played by Pete Davidson. Although their connection is instantaneous, it isn’t totally authentic. It turns out that Sheila has a time machine, and she has been going back in time to meet Gary, trying to fix his personal issues, heal his emotional trauma, and make him the perfect boyfriend. That requires her to keep going back further in time on each trip, 24 hours at a time, hoping to go back far enough to finally fix him.

The film is directed by Alex Lehmann, who also directed the Netflix comedy drama Paddleton, starring Ray Romano and Mark Duplass. “I’m excited for audiences to get swept away on this wild romantic ride exclusively on Peacock,” he said in press statement. He also spoke highly of working with Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson, leading him to joke about possibly wanting to have his own time machine and having an impossible choice to make. “Do I skip ahead to our release date, or do I go back and relive the joy it was making this film? Lucky for me it’s a decision I don’t get to make.”

The film is produced by Weed Road Pictures and written by Noga Pnueli. The script for Meet Cute was actually named to the 2018 “Black List,” which lists the best unproduced screenplays written that year (according to studio executives), that a studio has yet to film. Having that sort of buzz around it was likely the reason why Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson signed on for the comedy. A script named to the list is a near-guarantee of having the film made: other scripts on the 2018 “Black List” included King Richard and Promising Young Woman, both of which went on to win Academy Awards. Earlier this year, Cuoco spoke about working with Davidson with Extra.

Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson serve as executive producers for Meet Cute. Cuoco is coming off of another successful season of The Flight Attendant for HBO Max, which she recently admitted may yet get another season after previously saying she was done with the series. She will next be seen in the crime series Based on a True Story. Davidson had previously impressed moviegoers with performances in The Suicide Squad and The King of Staten Island. He has two new films, Wizards! and The Home, currently in production.
