Brie Larson has a very busy upcoming slate of projects. Aside from co-starring in the next installment of the Fast and Furious franchise as either an ally, enemy, or possibly both of the Toretto family, she will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Marvels. In addition to both of those projects, she will be leading the new Apple TV+ series Lessons in Chemistry. The rest of the cast was recently announced, and it is a pretty strong group of actors. According to Deadline, the new Brie Larson series will co-star Lewis Pullman, Thomas Mann, Aja Naomi King, Stephanie Koenig, Patrick Walker, Kevin Sussman, and Beau Bridges. Check it out:

In addition to starring in Lessons in Chemistry, Brie Larson will serve as executive producer. Lewis Pullman (who recently featured in the massive blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick as LT Robert “Bob” Floyd) will co-star with Brie Larson as Calvin Evans, her love interest and a Nobel Prize-nominee. It is a big step up for Pullman, who played a secondary supporting role in one of the year’s biggest films to now playing against one of the biggest actors (and Academy Award-winners) in Hollywood right now.

Brie Larson’s Lessons in Chemistry is adapted from the New York Times bestselling debut novel of Bonnie Garmus and is being show-run by Susannah Grant. Brie Larson will star as Elizabeth Zott, a chemist and researcher at the fictional Hastings Research Institute; as the only woman on staff in the 1960s, she faces sexism at every turn and after becoming pregnant, is fired from her job. However, Brie Larson’s character becomes the host of a popular, science-based cooking show named Supper at Six and sets out to turn her platform into a force for education.

Brie Larson is an outspoken feminist and advocate, so it makes sense that she would be involved in a project like Lessons in Chemistry that overtly speaks to women’s issues and the history of both institutional and personal sexism. It is interesting that Lessons in Chemistry centers on a fictional woman deemed unconventional by society who hosts a groundbreaking cooking program on television in the early 1960s, when in fact, there was actually a real-life person who fit that description exactly. Julia Child debuted her television program The French Chef in 1963 to immediate, massive popularity, despite the institutional sexism of the French kitchen system and American television production. There is no indication that Brie Larson’s character is patterned on Julia Child, which… interesting.

Lessons in Chemistry is scheduled to release on Apple TV+ in 2023. This makes it the third major project that Brie Larson will be appearing in in 2023. Fast X, the tenth movie in the Fast and Furious franchise, will be directed by Louis Leterrier. Along with Brie Larson, there are a few newcomers to the series, including Jason Momoa, Daniela Melchior, and Alan Ritchson. She will also be reprising the character of Carol Danvers in The Marvels, which will co-star Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris.
