Like Marvel, Star Wars is enjoying a new lease of life via Disney+. For stories set in a galaxy far, far away, the house of mouse’s streaming service has rejuvenated a franchise that looked set to be going stale after The Rise of Skywalker, long-form episodic storytelling has seen huge success for The Mandalorian and Ewan McGregor’s return in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Naturally, it leaves Star Wars observers pondering what other characters in the saga could be given the Disney+ treatment. The Direct reports that Oscar Isaac is open to a Star Wars return, as discussed in an interview Isaac had on Sirius XM, which you can see below.

Sirius XM’s Jess Cagle asks Oscar Isaac about a Star Wars return as Rebel space pilot Poe Dameron and if discussions had been held about the actor returning to the franchise. Cagle also queried whether a return was something Isaac had in mind, to which the actor gave a lengthy reply; “Hmm. I don’t know. No, I don’t know. I mean, I’m open to anything, you never know. But yeah, there’s no… I have no real feeling one way or the other, you know? I’m open to any kind of good story, any good thing to do. And time. Time’s the one thing that becomes much more challenging as you get older, with kids and all that. It’s like, where do these things fit in? Start really realizing that there’s not enough time for all of it. But if there was a great story and a great director and Kathy [Kennedy] came to me and was like, ’Hey, we’ve got this idea, you know, I’m so, so open to it.”

Oscar Isaac’s answer hints that a discussion about a Poe Dameron reprisal has not yet occurred and remained fairly noncommittal regarding returning to the Star Wars fold. Citing a great story and if the time was right is a commonplace actor’s response to a question as potent as a return to a major franchise role so it is no surprise that this is what Oscar Isaac deemed necessary to facilitate suiting up as Dameron once again. Oscar Isaac first appeared in Star Wars for Episode VI of the space opera; The Force Awakens and the film was a success both with critics and at the box office. However, the subsequent two installments, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker saw diminishing returns in both categories and LucasFilms’ focus has since shifted to Disney+ and episodic storytelling. Perhaps Isaac’s trepidation regarding a Star Wars return can be attributed to the poor reception that met his last two films in the saga. A similar worry befell Ewan McGregor before his return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, with the actor admitting that it took time for him to realize fans loved his character despite the poor critical reception of the prequel trilogy of Star Wars films. To a lesser extent, Isaac’s Poe Dameron fits the mold of McGregor’s Kenobi as a shining light within an underwhelming product, perhaps this similarity will pave the way for Isaac’s Star Wars future.

It’s needless to say that Oscar Issac is open to a Star Wars return, but it does seem that at the present moment he isn’t exactly committed to it. However, it does appear that there is one franchise that he is set to return to, as both he and Moon Knight director Mohammed Diab were recently questioned by a fan in Cairo whether they were returning for a second season, to which Isaac replied; “Why else would we be in Cairo?” So, Star Wars fans’ loss is Marvel fans’ gain, but another character in the Star Wars universe is soon to be making a return in the form of Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor in the 12-part Disney+ series Andor, debuting with a three-season premiere on Wednesday, September 21.
