Ryan Coogler is certainly a visionary, as he was responsible for bringing the world of Wakanda to the big screen. Coogler directed Black Panther, which would go on to receive Academy Award nominations, making it one of the rare times that a comic book movie has done so. He has also returned to direct Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which looks amazing too. Now, through our trusted and proven sources, we can report that Ryan Coogler is in talks to direct a Star Wars film.
Ryan Coogler being asked to take on Star Wars makes a ton of sense. His style matches up well with the Star Wars universe. Black Panther showcased a nation of proud people of tradition, while seamlessly blending in deep subjects of science fiction. That is the kind of style that is placed in nearly every Star Wars property that has been released. However, it is a bit difficult to determine where Coogler’s film is going to be placed. Even more difficult is determining what that film would be about. If we are being honest, we could see Coogler taking on the storylines that involved The Old Republic. Fans have been clamoring for that era to be covered on the big screen, and no one has tackled it just yet.
Bringing Ryan Coogler into Star Wars does mean that Disney is planning to shake things up in terms of the already rumored projects happening. We know that Taika Waititi has a rumored film being worked on. Also, Rian Johnson is meant to work on a brand-new trilogy, though he may not be as readily available while working on the Knives Out franchise. Coogler could be the best chance at getting a new-look Star Wars film out in the next few years. The rumored schedule is that a film will be released in December 2023, 2025, and 2027. However, we are not sure which director is going to be targeted for those release windows.
One thing is for sure, Ryan Coogler should aim to create a new Star Wars plot that doesnt revolve around the Skywalker Saga. Everyone might be a bit burned out when it comes to having to hear about the balancing of the force and the Skywalker lineage. We wouldn’t be the least bit upset if Coogler was going to tackle a more underdeveloped ideology when handling the force. He could potentially tackle a more violent time when the Sith and Jedi codes were barely coming into focus. A Wild West type of situation where lightsaber-wielding force users were running amuck. We are just speculating here, but there needs to be a different era covered in the next film.
We can’t wait to see what ideas Ryan Coogler has for Star Wars. He directed one of the best films to ever come out of Marvel Studios, and he seems to have the mindset that could that the franchise in the next best direction. We have complete faith in the man, and we are more than excited to see what he has planned for his film. Make it happen, Disney.
