Charlie Cox’s Daredevil Is Teaming Back Up With Spider-Man

San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing this week, after having been derailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the past couple of years. For the first time since 2019, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universe, and other comic book related media have traveled near and far to attend this year’s convention. What originally started as a comic book convention has morphed into an opportunity for studios to unveil new events, promote upcoming film and television series, and debut trailers. Panel discussions have been set up so that fans can hear from and interact with many of their favorite comic book actors, and news seems to break everyday of the convention with interesting tidbits about soon-to-be released projects. Now, Charlie Cox has been announced to be lending his voice to a fan-favorite character, which will soon be featured on an upcoming television series.
According to a report by The Direct, Charlie Cox is set to reprise his role as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, in the Disney+ original series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year. The new series is an animated program designed to showcase stories of Peter Parker’s days before becoming part of the Avengers, a nod to his early comic book roots. Cox played the part of Matt Murdock in a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, after having embodied the comic book character on the Netflix series Daredevil for three seasons, as well as the miniseries The Defenders. Marvel Studios revealed an image of what Daredevil may look like in Spider-Man: Freshman Year, complete with a black suit that has sent social media users into a frenzy. It had been rumored that Charlie Cox would play a role in future iterations of the Spider-Man franchise, after his brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. According to TVLine, Spider-Man: Freshman Year has already been renewed for a second season, ahead of its slated premiere sometime in 2024. Cox will also appear in the live-action series Echo as Daredevil, along with costars Vincent D’Onofrio and Alaqua Cox, as reported by Collider. These appearances may lead to future plans for Cox as Daredevil within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With the announcement of Charlie Cox taking on the role of Daredevil in several soon-to-be released projects, San Diego Comic-Con continues to provide well publicized events for the masses. There is currently a rumor that Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson will be introducing Henry Cavill at the convention this weekend, which would be an opportunity for Cavill to come back to the DC Extended Universe as Superman for the first time since 2017’s Justice League. As of now, several high profile celebrities will be part of the convention’s festivities, including Frank Miller, Tatiana Maslany, and Zachary Levi. New trailers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and information on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will also be presented, with Black Adam taking center stage this weekend. The San Diego Comic-Con runs through July 24, 2022.
