See Sydney Sweeney Get Emotional About Her Emmy Nominations
She deserves it.

It’s Emmy nominations time again, and you know what that means: fans are upset that someone or some show was snubbed. Sure, we can be upset that Millie Bobby Brown and Sadie Sink didn’t get nominations, and Yellowstone was shut out as well, but we can all take solace that Sydney Sweeney got not one, but two Emmy nominations for her work this past year. The 24-year-old Washington native posted a video on Instagram of herself just after the nominations were announced, calling her mother to celebrate the news. As soon as her mother picks up the line, Sweeney can hardly contain her emotions, and she soon breaks down in happy tears.
Her caption on the post thanked not only the Television Academy for the nominations, but her mother as well. “Thank you so much to the @televisionacad for my emmy nominations,” she wrote. “It’s an honor to know that both Olivia and Cassie have connected with so many. But most importantly mom, I love you, we did it through the ups and downs! thank you thank you!!” Sweeney was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Cassie on HBO’s Euphoria, which many expected she would receive for the critically-acclaimed series. The surprise was a second nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for playing Olivia Mossbacher in The White Lotus, another HBO production. The Emmy nominations are the first in her young career, which is on the upswing with the recent news that she has been cast in the Madame Web movie for Marvel Studios.
Her nomination for Euphoria was well-earned. As fans of the show know, season two was an especially difficult one for Sweeney’s character of Cassie. She became an outsider among the other characters after she betrayed her friendship with Maddy (Alexa Demie) by secretly dating her ex-boyfriend Nate (Jacob Elordi), after wooing him by changing her look and style, including wearing western-themed clothes. Sydney Sweeney’s performance this season has been nothing short of phenomenal (as the clip below shows), which is saying something, considering the talent level of the Euphoria cast. Zendaya, of course, earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series for playing Rue, and she also made Emmy history with Euphoria earning an Outstanding Drama Series nomination, becoming the youngest TV series producer to ever earn an Emmy nomination. Euphoria earned a total of 16 Emmy nominations this year.
The post featuring video of such a private moment is not unusual to her more than 13 million followers on Instagram. While Sydney Sweeney usually posts pictures from her fashion shoots or magazine covers, she will also sprinkle in some personal pictures with her family and friends. She even posts pictures with her dog Tank, which she seems to take everywhere.
Her Emmy nomination has finally overshadowed the controversy surrounding her character, which often calls on her to film a number of graphic nude scenes. In an interview with People Magazine, Sydney Sweeney said “I’m so disconnected from it,” speaking of the nudity. “When I get tagged in Cassie’s or Pippa from The Voyeurs’ nudes, it feels like me looking at their nudes, not Sydney’s nudes.”
Sydney Sweeney will be returning for Euphoria season three, and in addition to Madame Web, she is also starring in the upcoming film National Anthem. Prior to Euphoria, Sweeney had a breakthrough role on Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale as Eden. Her other acting credits include the movie The Ward, Grey’s Anatomy, In The Vault, Everything Sucks!, and Sharp Objects.
