Thanks to Star Wars legend Dave Filoni and frequent Disney/Marvel/Star Wars collaborator Jon Favreau, Disney+ is a haven for Star Wars content. Beginning with The Mandalorian exploring a new corner of the Star Wars universe, the streaming service has continued to plan and promise more content coming in the form of short form limited series. Now that viewers have been treated to MandoThe Book of Boba FettThe Bad Batch, and most recently, Obi-Wan Kenobi, eyes are on the horizon for what is next. Of course, the Ahsoka series is taking most of the attention, but there is a smaller and more surprising project that may sweep in and take over the hype train. Jude Law is joining the Star Wars Universe, and his series has already begun filming.

According to Bespin Bulletin, Jude Law’s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew began filming at the end of June. The show has been filming in the same location at Manhattan Beach Studios, the exact location that was home to The MandalorianObi-Wan Kenobi, and The Book of Boba Fett. Not only is the series following the other significant properties, but it joins Ahsoka, which has been underway for some time. There are additional locations listed in Culver City and California State University. The series is produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau and will be directed by the Spider-Man trilogy director, Jon Watts. It is quite exciting that Watts is coming over from the MCU and right into Star Wars.

The storyline for the series is sparse currently. However, there is a little bit of information that we can lean on to predict what we will see. Jon Watts has said this is about four kids around ten years old who get lost in space. During Star Wars Day in the Spring, Watts commented that while it stars children, it isn’t a children’s show. It is meant to be enjoyed by all ages. Plenty of shows and movies in recent memory have taken that route, like Stranger Things and Stephen King’s IT. However, Watts said during Star Wars Day that he wanted to make a “Goonies style Star Wars story.” While Goonies may be an interesting inspiration to take for the Star Wars Universe, Jude Law is the kind of star power that could make it work.

There is also some inspiration in Dave Filoni’s own Star Wars: Clone Wars in a four-episode arc from Season 5. A group of six younglings are attacked by pirates on a ship while returning to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Ahsoka was taken hostage during the raid. The six young Jedis who have just gotten their lightsaber crystals must find a way to save the padawan and get back home. While there isn’t any indication that this is a storyline they will use, it could work well in the universe with Ahsoka already making appearances. We will have to wait and see what Jude Law can bring to the Star Wars Universe, maybe a pirate on the search for young Jedis?
