We’ve been waiting to learn more about David O. Russell’s hotly-anticipated film Amsterdam and now we finally have our first look with the official trailer. In the trailer, we get to see Christian Bale’s fake eye pop out, Margot Robbie talking about hitting a lady with a brick, and John David Washington in an army uniform. Check out the trailer below:

Amsterdam will be David O. Russell’s first film since Joy in 2015. The critically acclaimed writer and director is known for movies like American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, and The Fighter, so there is a lot of hype going into Amsterdam. It doesn’t hurt that the cast is absolutely stacked with some of the best talent working in Hollywood today. In addition to the main trio of Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington you have Chris Rock, Robert de Niro, Anya Taylor-Joy, Taylor Swift, Mike Myers, Zoe Saldana, Rami Malek, Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, and more. Amsterdam will tell the story of three friends sworn to protect each other in the 1930s. They are accused of a murder they didn’t commit and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history.

Christian Bale has previously worked with David O. Russell in both American Hustle and The Fighter. Both films earned the actor and the director Oscar noms, with The Fighter earning Bale a Best Supporting Actor win. Hopefully, Amsterdam brings us a similar level of quality. This will be the first time Margot Robbie and John David Washington work with David O. Russell as a director. We won’t have to wait too terribly long to see this star-studded film, as it’s set to hit theaters before the year is over. Amsterdam is expected to come out on November 4.

Of course, we won’t have to wait long at all to see Christian Bale in a very different role, as Thor: Love and Thunder comes out this week. Christian Bale will be making his big MCU debut as the fearsome Gorr the God Butcher. The last time we saw Bale in a comic book movie was his iconic performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the Christoper Nolan trilogy. With Robert Pattinson now taking on the cowl of the Caped Crusader, Bale is turning to the villain side. Early critic reviews have praised Bale’s performance in Thor: Love and Thunder, already calling him one of the best MCU villains. This isn’t too much of a surprise, as Bale usually brings his all to a role.

Thor: Love and Thunder will be Christian Bale’s first role since 2019’s Ford vs Ferrari. That’s a long time to wait for a performance from Bale, but it seems like the wait will be worth it. Plus, we get the benefit of seeing two Bale performances this year, so it’s hard to complain. Thor: Love and Thunder comes out this Friday, July 8. Amsterdam is the next role for both Margot Robbie and John David Washington, so you’ll have to wait until November to see them on the big screen again.
