By the time we got to the end of the first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi we’d been treated to a number of different Star Wars storylines and characters along the way. The show did its best to continue the story from the prequel trilogy while also bridging some of the gap to when we were first introduced to the franchise in A New Hope. And while the story did move some chess pieces around, and continue on the arcs for a number of different folks, one character was thankfully left off the list when it came to making cameos, until now. An industrious Twitter user has put one Mr. Jar Jar Binks into the final scene of Obi-Wan Kenobi creating the thing of nightmares for Star Wars fans, many of whom would be more than happy to never see this guy ever again. Warning: Obi-Wan Kenobi spoilers coming soon.

In the final scene of Obi-Wan Kenobi, after leaving Luke to his Aunt and Uncle on Tattoine (and also uttering a perfect “Hello There”) Ewan McGregor’s titular character makes his way across the desert to, presumably, begin some of the isolation we knew would be the case from A New Hope. But along the way, he comes into contact with the Force Ghost of Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn who died during The Phantom Menace. But now, instead of that somewhat heartfelt reunion, Twitter user McJesse took it upon himself to put in Jar Jar Binks bopping around and acting a fool. Check it out and see just how much worse things could have been for the end of this Obi-Wan Kenobi season.

Oof, it’s tough to watch Obi-Wan Kenobi go out this way, but only because the character is just so cringeworthy, even after more than a couple of decades for the effect to wear off. The inclusion of Jar Jar Binks in Episode I – The Phantom Menace remains one of the true head-scratching moments for the franchise and has often been cited as one of the main examples of George Lucas and company simply not reading the room correctly when putting together the prequel trilogy.

Jar Jar is a Gungan who teams up with McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Neeson’s Qui-Gon early in the movie, presumably to provide some kid-friendly comic relief. He’s bumbling and clumsy, talks with a funny accent, and doesn’t do anything of real note except just annoy the hell out of everyone (characters and viewers alike) throughout. He’s become something of a running joke for Star Wars folks over the years. His inclusion here is hilarious in just how out of place the character was from the jump, highlighted even more so here.

And Jar Jar Binks has become such a joke that even recently Taika Waititi joked that he would “ruin” the franchise by making a solo movie about the character for his much-anticipated Star Wars movie. Saying this even tongue-in-cheek was recognized by fans as being a total joke because of what the character has become. And it only took seeing him against briefly in this Obi-Wan Kenobi fan clip to know that we never need to see him again.
