Marvel’s Kevin Feige Teases The Next Big Event
Here it comes!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is easily one of the biggest successes of the modern movie age. Thanks to the massive crossover potential and the built-in audiences of superhero and comic fans, pretty much all of their movies make huge amounts of money. No two movies embody this better than Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, which were the patient culmination of years of setup, solo movies, and previous team-up. Both movies quickly became some of the highest-grossing films of all time. With the Thanos threat in the rearview, fans have been wondering — what’s next? According to Kevin Feige the answer is obvious. In an interview with Total Film he teased Secret Wars as the next big crossover event we can expect to see.
If you’re unfamiliar with Marvel’s Secret Wars comic event, there are actually two sagas to catch up on. The first was the limited series that ran from 1984-1985 and the second was a run in 2015. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no stranger to making adjustments from the comics to fit their establish film universe, so it’s unlikely it would be a 1:1 adaptation. Especially since retired (or expired) superheroes like Captain America and Iron Man were featured in the original run. Characters that haven’t been introduced to the MCU proper, like Doctor Doom and Magneto, also promiently feature, so clearly there is still a lot of groundwork to be laid before this crossover comes to fruition. The Secret Wars saga sees the Beyonder transporting various heroes and villains to Battleworld, where they must fight each other to gain the prize of a wish. The series was lauded for its action and long-standing effects on the Marvel universe.
Although Secret Wars has a ton of characters from X-Men and the Fantastic Four, we’ve only got the briefest glimpses of characters from these teams in the MCU. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness brought in Professor X and Mr. Fantastic for brief roles, but that likely won’t be enough to establish them before throwing them into a massive standoff between heroes and villains. We’ll be getting a solo MCU Fantastic Four movie soon though, so that will help to remedy that situation. Another important character in the sage, Kang the Conquerer, has already been introduced in the Loki TV series. He’ll be appearing in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which will help to further set up his role as well.
Until we get more information on the setup for Secret Wars, we’ll just have to keep on checking out what Marvel has in store for the near future. The latest project, Ms. Marvel, is currently streaming on Disney+ with more episodes to come. The next big movie feature will be Thor: Love and Thunder on July 8. After that, we’ll be getting the I Am Groot shorts on August 10, the She-Hulk series on August 17, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on November 11, and we’ll end the year with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special sometime before 2023.
