People might be burned out on MCU shows and films. Well, the film side of things might not be hurting, but it appears that the shows have taken a significant hit. Ms. Marvel is the newest series that has dropped, but it has achieved an embarrassing record for Marvel. According to new data reports, the new series was viewed 775,000 times in the first five days of being out. That does not sound like a small amount, but it’s the worst of any MCU Disney+ series. For comparison purposes, Hawkeye had pulled in 1.5 million viewers within its first five days.
There could be a lot of factors that have led to Ms. Marvel seeing some drops. Moon Knight had just finished, which left fans reeling. Ms. Marvel might not be the same type of story that fans are looking for, considering it’s centering more on young-adult style. Also, people might be burned out on MCU stories. Dating back to January of 2021, there has been a new series dropping nearly every three months. WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…?, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and now Ms. Marvel have all been released. That is a lot of content to pay attention to, and it could be time for people to take a well-deserved break.
Despite the overall low numbers, Ms. Marvel has been a hit with Gen Z though. The show has recorded some of the best numbers in the 20-24 age range. This is good for bringing in a whole new host of fans who might not know much about Marvel comics and corresponding stories. Also, more diverse crowds also tuned into the series. Asian, Black, and Hispanic households seemed to tune into this series more than the others. This might be because we have received the first Pakistani American superhero. That is groundbreaking enough to bring in a much more diverse crowd.
Marvel doesn’t have to worry much though, as fans will always flock to anything that the media giant puts out. The MCU could see some dips in users, but it won’t deter fans from taking in all they can when it comes to Marvel continuity. Also, Ms. Marvel might not have big cameos yet, as the season has just started, but once another big name makes its way into the show, fans will flock to the series to see how it connects to everything else. We are not sure just yet, but it is likely that we might be seeing Captain Marvel appear at some point in the show, and it could mean Nick Fury does as well. This is just speculation, but all are supposed to reunite for The Marvels anyway.
Ms. Marvel is set to release its next episode on Wed, which will be the third episode of the series. There are three more episodes after that to see if any big-name Marvel heroes appear in some fashion. There should be an uptick in numbers, which is the usual case for shows nearing the season finale. Fans can stream the first two episodes for themselves on Disney+ and decide if the series‘ lower number is justified.
