Hayden Christensen Wants To Bring The Best Darth Vader Stories To Disney+
We'd love to see them!

With Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen has made a fierce return to Star Wars as Anakin Skywalker. Apparently, the star is hoping it won’t be his last turn as the franchise’s greatest villain. Better yet, he’s got some ideas for the kinds of Vader stories he wants to tell, and they’re from some of the best Vader stories you’re going to find anywhere.
While speaking to Screen Rant about Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen was asked about the possibility of playing the character after the series. Christensen responded, “I certainly would love to continue with this character, and I feel like there’s more there to do. But we’ll see… In preparing for this, I did as much research as I could. And I got to read some of these Darth Vader comics, these standalone comics that just focus on Darth Vader, and [there’s] some really interesting stuff there. I don’t know. But yeah, I would love to get to do this again.”
Though many fans remain unhappy that Disney bought the rights to Star Wars from George Lucas a decade ago, one benefit of that purchase was that it brought Star Wars comics back to Marvel. The comic book company has put out some amazing titles from the franchise ever since, most of which are considered canon. In particular, if you’ve read the 2017-2019 Star Wars: Darth Vader series by Charles Soule and Giuseppe Camuncoli, then knowing that Hayden Christensen is likely talking about that series — among others — probably has you excited.
In 2017’s Star Wars: Darth Vader #1, the story begins just as Vader wakes up in his new cybernetic form. Palpatine sets him on his first task — to find and kill a Jedi and use the remnants of their lightsaber to forge his own. Thoughtful yet fast-paced and absolutely merciless, Soule and Camuncoli’s Darth Vader is not almost certainly the best Vader solo comic you’ll ever read as well as one of the best Star Wars comics ever, but honestly it’s one of the best comics Marvel had on the shelves at the time.
One interesting moment in the Star Wars: Darth Vader finale stopped just short of confirming a fan theory that’s been making the rounds ever since 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, and we’d be surprised if this wasn’t one of the stories Hayden Christensen was talking about. In 2019’s Star Wars: Darth Vader #25, while experiencing visions after defeating the spirit of the ancient Sith Lord Momin, one of Vader’s visions shows Palpatine using the Force to conceive Anakin in Shmi. You can see that moment below.
In fact, even if you haven’t read Darth Vader #25, you may have already heard about it. It aided in a bit of controversy in the wake of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Before his death in the film, Kylo Ren kisses Rey. If Palpatine was Vader’s “Force daddy,” then since we know Kylo was Vader’s grandson — plus the revelation that Rey is Palpatine’s granddaughter — then it could be argued that Ben Solo spent his final moments making out with his great-aunt.
