Netflix just hit us with the trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and it looks like a horror fan’s dream. The chilling trailer doesn’t give us many details on the stories that will be told, but it does set the creepy atmosphere and you do get to see the list of guest stars and guest directors who are on board for the horror anthology. Take a look at the trailer below:
Guillermo del Toro is known for creating unique, horror-tinged tales such as Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, Crimson Peak, and Hellboy. The Cabinet of Curiosities series will feature eight episodes of horror that are directed by different acclaimed horror directors, all telling a brand new story. Although the trailer doesn’t have a lot to offer in the way of story details, we do have brief descriptions of who will be starring in each episode and who will be directing these actors. Let’s take a look:
One episode with feature Essie Davis, Andrew Lincoln, and Hannah Galway. Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) writes and directs the story by Guillermo del Toro. Another episode will feature F. Murray Abraham, Luke Roberts, and Glyn Turman. David Prior (The Empty Man) directs the script by David S. Goyer, which is based on a short story by Michael Shea.
Crispin Glover and Ben Barnes will appear in an episode direct by Keith Thomas (Firestarter). The episode features a script from Lee Patterson based on an H.P. Lovecraft short story. Peter Weller will star in an episode directed by Panos Cosmatos (Mandy), who co-wrote the script with Aaron Stewart-Ahn. Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) directs an episode written by Mika Watkins and based on another H.P. Lovecraft story. This one has yet to announce the cast list. Tim Blake Nelson, Elpidia Carrillo, Demetrius Grosse, and Sebastian Roché will feature in an episode directed by Guillermo Navarro (Narcos), written by Regina Corrado, and based on a story by Guillermo del Toro.
The series is rounded out by an episode starring David Hewlett with Vincenzo Natali (Hannibal) directing and writing the script based on a short story by Henry Kuttner. Finally, Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) directs an episode written by Haley Z. Boston, based on a short story by Emily Carroll. No cast list has been announced for this one yet. As you can see, it seems like Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is going to be quite the horror experience. Some cast members not mentioned in the episode list are Rupert Grint, Sofia Boutella, Eric Andre, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Charlyne Yi, and Kate Micucci.
Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is expected to hit Netflix sometime in 2022. Del Toro will have another project released with Netflix before the end of the year, with a stop-motion retelling of the Pinocchio story. This version will likely be a bit darker than the live-action retelling that Disney is also planning on releasing in the near future. In any case, make sure to watch out for both of these del Toro projects on the streaming platform.
