See Amber Heard’s Reaction To Losing The Johnny Depp Case
Amber Heard reacts to the decision!
This article is more than 2 years old
The jury in Johnny Depp’s defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard has finally reached its decision. The verdict? They were both jerks, but Heard was more of one. Well, that’s not precisely it, but basically they’ve agreed that both defamed each other, while awarding Depp the lion’s share of damages. They say Heard owes her ex-husband $15 million, but that Depp owes Heard $2 million. Shortly after the decision was read, Amber Heard released her official reaction to the news. Spoiler warning: she isn’t happy.
ABC News and others released a graphic of Amber Heard’s reaction to social media. She calls herself “heartbroken” with the news of the decision, and blames the “disproportionate power, influence, and sway” of Johnny Depp for her loss. She implies the verdict is bad news for “other women” and writes that “it sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.” She ends claiming the decision has taken away her right to free speech. You can read the entire statement below.
Even before Amber Heard released her statement, her reaction was laid bare for the world to see. The verdict was read live on TV, and viewers were able to see Heard’s pained look for themselves. You can see screenshots of that moment below.
While the Amber Heard reaction we’ve gotten isn’t likely to change a lot of minds, it shouldn’t be surprising. As the Aquaman star notes in her statement, Johnny Depp filed a similar lawsuit against the UK publication The Sun for referring to him as a “wife beater.” In November 2020, the decision went against Depp — a decision which closely preceded his firing from the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Perhaps Heard was expecting this case to be a repeat performance, but apparently she was wrong.
We’ll have to wait and see if Amber Heard ends up receiving the same professional reaction that her ex-husband suffered back in 2020. Her work opportunities already look a little lean. There have been rumblings that Warner Bros. is now considering removing her entirely from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and the only other film she’s attached to is the period film In the Fire. She’s listed as making the film Run Away with Me, but considering the feature has been in various stages of pre-production since 2018, it may very well be a “don’t hold your breath” situation.
Meanwhile, there are signs that Johnny Depp could see some redemption coming his way. We don’t necessarily expect to see him offered his old Fantastic Beasts job back (nor do we necessarily think any more Fantastic Beasts movies will be made), but with the defamation win under his belt, an offer to come back to Pirates of the Caribbean might not be out of the picture.
Johnny Depp launched his defamation case against his ex-wife after she wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post in 2018 claiming she had been a victim of domestic violence during the course of their marriage. Amber Heard gave the expected reaction of countersuing, and today it feels like we’re all in the ruins of a long battle. Though it would seem naive to think this is the last we’ve heard from these two.
