With a franchise as big as Star Wars, getting word about future seasons of a series can sometimes happen well in advance of the actual *next* season even hitting the streamer. That’s just the nature of the business at this point, with the anticipation of more stories possibly outstripping the event itself. It’s a funny thing that’s happened in this respect, and that’s the case with The Mandalorian Season 4 which was recently confirmed by the series creator himself, Jon Favreau.
Favreau was speaking with Cinemablend (via CBR) over the weekend. He gave some updates about where things stand with the popular Disney+ series and what to expect from future stories, including specific things related to The Mandalorian Season 4. Favreau said that he had already begun working on stories and scripts for that season even though the third season was still well off in the future. In this way, it appears it’s never too early to get started especially knowing that the show was going to go on in this universe.
Regarding his process for The Mandalorian Season 4, Jon Favreau talked about how with Dave Filoni working on Ahsoka, the process for crafting the next set of stories for Din Djarin and company was actually beginning to crystallize in a clearer way. Favreau said, “it’s very much informing the writing that I’m doing for Season 4. It becomes – how should I put it – more precise.”
In advance of The Mandalorian Season 4, the Season 3 teaser trailer was revealed at the Star Wars Celebration 2022 with a first look at the next set of stories which just recently wrapped up filming back in late March. It’s been a long time coming, seeing as how the last episode of the series aired all the way back in December of 2020 with “Chapter 16: The Rescue”. Seeing as how Season 3 isn’t planned to come until sometime in 2023, this will have been quite the extended break for the show. But remember, we were given something of an interim story in this timeline with The Book of Boba Fett which aired in December of 2021.
Though we are still a ways away from The Mandalorian Season 4, we are starting to get an idea of how Season 3 could play out. It’s looking like there will be a return to Mandalore with the possibility that Kate Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan is the primary antagonist for this season. We know she is now the ruler of that world, and it is looking like she and Din are on a collision course this time around.
February 2023 is when we should get The Mandalorian Season 3 and it stands to reason that The Mandalorian Season 4 won’t have the same gap this time around. Though that’s just speculation. With the way the Star Wars universe is still growing at a breakneck pace, there’s so much in development that it’s tough to know which productions affect each other. We should be getting more details about this season coming over the course of the next few months.
