Disney+ has been known for some of the more interesting projects to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starting with the debut of WandaVision and leading up to successes in Loki and Moon Knight, the subscription streamer has secured a good reputation for expanding the MCU with a variety of television series that seem to connect all of the fan-favorite characters that audiences have grown to love in recent years. Having consistent storylines across various series and movies is probably a difficult task for producers, but the upcoming series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, might have people scratching their heads as to the look of the main character.
Disney+ will premiere She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on August 17, 2022, but they have already had to make changes to the main character played by Emmy award winner Tatiana Maslany. According to reports by Comic Book, Disney+ has updated the CGI look of the character of She-Hulk, since its initial trailer debut in early May. Since then, an updated version of the same trailer has been released, which reflects some slight changes to She-Hulk’s face. With softer features that still look a bit ridiculous, they might match the more humorous tone of this new entry into Phase 4 of the MCU, and these small changes may be just what audiences prefer to see in a new superhero.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will introduce a new superhero in Maslany’s Jennifer Walters, as well as an ensemble cast of familiar faces. As the eighth series to hit Disney+ within the MCU, She-Hulk will costar Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Jameela Jamil, and Hamilton star Renee Elise Goldsberry. Mark Ruffalo will reprise his Avengers role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in the new series, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter. Ruffalo’s appearances may be smaller in scale, but they may give way to pass the torch to Maslany going forward.
Depicted in the trailer as more of a comedy rather than an action comic-book thriller, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will be a fresh take on characters audiences have grown to enjoy throughout MCU’s run. Maslany will portray Jennifer Walters as she traverses being a single woman in her 30s, her career as an attorney, and the fact that she is a 6’7″ green hulk of epic proportions. Based on the Marvel Comics of the same name, the nine-episode series is created by Jessica Gao of Rick and Morty fame, and the episodes will be directed by Marry Me’s Kat Coiro and Never Have I Ever’s Anu Valia.
Before she was cast in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany found fame with cult-favorite projects. Winning the Primetime Emmy for her work as multiple characters on Orphan Black, Maslany has been featured in other prominent works such as Eastern Promises, Destroyer, and HBO’s recent updated version of Perry Mason. With the upcoming jaunt into the MCU, time will tell to see if her take on She-Hulk will be a step in a different direction for a performer that seems to always be willing to take some risks.
