Amazon’s hit series The Boys third season isn’t too far away. Amidst the build-up that anticipates the return of the incredibly popular superhero romp, a trailer has been released for an in-series film titled Dawn of the Seven The Bourke Cut. It appears the trailer and the name are a little parody, poking fun at Zack Snyder’s Justice League. However, Zack Snyder himself has taken to Twitter in response to Amazon’s efforts, and as ComicBook.com reports, the action director has taken the joke well.

The original Dawn of the Seven made its bow in season two of The Boys and reappropriated certain elements of the season’s narrative. The Bourke Cut trailer most definitely takes a swing at Zack Snyder, with several visual tropes that seem to match what the director brought to his brand of DC movies. Homelander utters, “we are the one and only true justice” and the trailer even comes with its own hashtag, #ReleaseTheBourkeCut. You can see the parody trailer below.

Not only has Zack Snyder seen the parody trailer, but he also took to Twitter himself to comment on it. And the news is positive, Snyder is definitely in on the joke as he tweeted his congratulations to film director Adam Bourke for being able to release his true cinematic vision. You can see Snyder’s Tweet in full below.

It should come as no surprise that The Boys has taken on a parody such as The Bourke Cut trailer, the show is famed for its ability to draw parallels to famous comic book characters such as Jensen Ackles’ new character appearing in season three called Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy is supposed to be a parody/pastiche of Captain America, a World War 2 veteran in the modern age who sports a shield. However, as GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT has already reported, Soldier Boy subverts things slightly by being a violent bigot and a symbol of toxic masculinity. The Bourke Cut Parody and its response from Zack Snyder are of course in relation to Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The HBO Max four-hour extravaganza saw Snyder wrestle back creative control of his superhero epic that had been critically derided following the Joss Whedon theatrical release that occurred after Snyder stepped down from the initial production of the film.

Snyder and Bourke cuts aside, there is another director re-cut that fans have been asking for, The Ayer Cut. This is of course in reference to David Ayer’s ill-fated Suicide Squad movie, which the director said was ruined by the studio. As a result, #ReleaseTheAyerCut trends periodically on Twitter as fans push for the director to release a version of the film without studio interference. Whether or not David Ayer and fans get their wish is up in the air, but the success of Zack Snyder’s Justice League and its ability to transcend popular culture in the form of The Boys parody shows that rejigging theatrical films is a trend that is worth Warner Bros’ time to continue capitalizing on.
