With Ezra Miller’s recent legal troubles and their uncertain future as the DCEU’s Flash, fans are quickly coming up with alternative castings. One popular fan choice to replace Miller is Dylan O’Brien. Check out the fanart showing what this could look like on AGT Design’s Instagram:

The poster prominently features Dylan O’Brien as Barry Allen/The Flash in the upper-left corner. It also features Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Shannon’s General Zod, and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. It even sneaks in another popular fan-casting with a suited-up Grant Gustin from CW’s The Flash. If Warner does decide to replace Ezra Miller, Dylan O’Brien would definitely be a great choice. He certainly looks the part.

This isn’t the first time that fans have proposed a way to bring Dylan O’Brien into the DC cinematic universe. Other fan castings have O’Brien as Dick Grayson, who was initially Robin in the comics and other DC media before becoming Nightwing. Fans have long wanted Dylan O’Brien to step in as Nightwing, but Barry Allen would be a good alternative. However, Ezra Miller is currently still playing the lead in the upcoming movie, unless something changes. Meaning there isn’t much use in offering replacement ideas.

Dylan O’Brien is just one name that has been thrown out to replace Ezra Miller. Fans have also pushed for Grant Gustin to get the chance to step up from the realm of DC TV shows and play Barry Allen on the silver screen instead. Currently, Gustin is only signed on for one more season of The Flash, so his schedule could very well open up in the near future. Of course, there’s a chance he wouldn’t want to continue playing the same superhero in another franchise. Plus, the upcoming Flash film is supposed to have multiversal elements, meaning Grant Gustin might already be making a surprise cameo as a Flash variant from a different universe. There will already be two Batmans (Batmen?) in the movie with Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton both reprising their roles. DC might not want to ruin their current plans by casting Gustin in the main role.

Of course, this doesn’t rule out Dylan O’Brien as a replacement, but it still seems unlikely. Unless Ezra Miller’s legal problems continue or escalate, Warner will likely want to stick with their original plans. Plus, Dylan O’Brien is pretty busy anyway. He recently appeared in the film The Outfit and has a couple more projects coming out in 2022 with Not Okay and Maximum Truth. He has another project on the docket called The Vanishings at Caddo Lake that doesn’t have an official release date yet.

Whether Dylan O’Brien, Ezra Miller, or Grant Gustin are playing the Flash, the movie is set to come out in June of 2023. Unless they plan on making drastic changes, it’s a pretty safe bet that Miller will be in the lead role. The Flash is directed by Andy Muschietti and written by Christina Hodson and Joby Harold. The plot is currently being kept under wraps.
