Star Wars fans have a lot to celebrate today. Not only is the highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series premiering on Disney+ tomorrow, but The Mandalorian has just announced when we can expect Season 3. The official Star Wars Twitter account posted that Grogu and Mando would be returning to our small screens in February of 2023. Check out the Tweet below:
The Mandalorian has been a runaway success, pleasing Star Wars fans of all ages. The Lone Wolf and Cub-like story has won over audiences with its action, story, characters, and easy charm. Thanks to the efforts of Pedro Pascal as the stoic Mandalorian warrior and creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, fans have been treated to a side of the Star Wars universe that doesn’t revolve entirely around Jedis or Skywalkers. Favreau and Filoni made the announcement for the new season release themselves at a panel at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim. Katee Sackhoff, who plays Bo-Katan Kryze was also at the panel. Fans at the event were treated to a teaser trailer that the rest of us will likely get to see fairly soon. It was also announced that the Rogue One prequel series Andor would be premiering in August.
You may notice that the announcement states that both Grogu and Mando would be continuing their journey in The Mandalorian Season 3. This might a little confusing for fans who last saw the two in the Season 2 finale. The finale saw Mando and Grogu parting ways after Luke Skywalker took Grogu to begin his Jedi training. To fully catch up with the story, fans would have needed to tune in to The Book of Boba Fett. Though The Book of Boba Fett primarily focused on Boba taking over the crime boss throne on Tattoine, there were several episodes that heavily featured Grogu and Mando. Luke Skywalker ended up presenting Grogu with the choice of a lightsaber or Mandalorian armor. Grogu ended up choosing the armor his found father figure gifted him, with the two reuniting at the end of The Book of Boba Fett. Now Grogu has some training under his belt, so he’ll likely be able to help Mando even more in his continuing adventures.
With the return of Katee Sackhoff, we’re likely going to be getting more tension between her character and Mando. Mando is in possession of the Darksaber, which is the ancestral weapon wielded by rulers of the Mandalorians’ home planet of Mandalore. Giancarlo Esposito will also be returning as the villainous Moff Gideon to cause trouble for Grogu and Mando. Carl Weathers is also set to return as Greef Carga. Christopher Llyod was announced for a guest role that has yet to be revealed. If you can’t wait for the release date of The Mandalorian‘s third season, at least you’ll have plenty of Star Wars content to keep you busy. You can catch the series premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi tomorrow on Disney+. Plus, you can always rewatch Mando and Grogu’s journey up to this point.
