Though we might not ever see Johnny Depp suit up as Captain Jack Sparrow ever again, Disney is continuing on with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. It has already been announced by Jerry Bruckheimer that two spinoffs are in the works. One will see Margot Robbie take the lead of the franchise. The other is currently a mystery for now. However, based on our trusted and proven source, we can report that a third spinoff is in the works. This third Pirates spinoff will star Dwayne Johnson.
Honestly, it is a bit perplexing that Disney has not taken this route already. Dwayne Johnson appearing in Pirates of the Caribbean sounds like a fantastic idea. The man is already one of the biggest stars in show business, and he already has a working relationship with Disney. He co-starred in Jungle Cruise alongside Emily Blunt and there are rumors that a sequel of that film is on the horizon too. However, Johnson becoming a pirate makes all the sense in the world. There needs to be some reimagining going on with the franchise, and why not make it more expansive in terms of creating a universe like the MCU. Pirates of the Caribbean movies can coexist with one another in a grander multiverse of sorts.
Dwayne Johnson appearing in Pirates of the Caribbean could easily be tied into the Margot Robbie film, and whatever other spinoff is currently being developed. Instead of continuing to bring in more villains and stars on a sequel basis, they can all exist in their own solo stories and then be brought together. There needs to be new life breathed into this franchise, and a great way to move past Johnny Depp is to bring in multiple stars with multiple storylines. Also, this could be a great way to bring in more legacy characters. We reported that Bill Nighy is in talks to reprise his role as Davy Jones in the Margot Robbie Pirates film, so maybe we might see Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) return as well. Let’s also not forget the incomparable Captain Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush).
Most of the Pirates of the Caribbean films have all been about high-flying fun and action. What better way to continue that trend than by making Dwayne Johnson a pirate? He can clearly lead action films, and he has proven that he is quite humorous too. One thing is for sure, we need to see Kevin Hart appear in his film alongside Johnson. Those two would be just as hilarious with one another as Pintel and Ragetti were in the original franchise, but Johnson and Hart would certainly have much more expansive roles.
Dwayne Johnson in a Pirates of the Caribbean film, and Margot Robbie, are going to be fantastic. There are no details on who is being eyed for the third spinoff, but it will surely be someone exciting. Nothing against Johnny Depp, as he was fantastic in the films, but now the franchise is set to have even bigger stars. Both Johnson and Robbie are at the top of their game right now. This new direction for Pirates is going to be quite interesting.
