Kevin Smith took to Twitter to share the news that he tested positive for COVID-19. He also took the time to comment on the tragic school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. The shooting resulted in the death of 19 children and two teachers. The gunman was killed by law enforcement on the scene. See Smith’s tweet about his diagnosis and the shooting below:

Kevin Smith’s tweet provides two sobering reminders — that the pandemic is still an active threat and that something needs to be done about the persistent tragedy of mass shootings. For now, fans are wishing Kevin Smith well and hoping for a quick and full recovery. Though COVID-19 can absolutely be fatal, Smith is young enough and in good enough health that this will hopefully just require some isolation and a short recovery period for the beloved filmmaker.

Kevin Smith is staying plenty busy with his podcast, Fatman Beyond, but he also has quite a few projects in the works. Most recently, he produced and wrote the Masters of the Universe: Revelation animated series on Netflix. He also had a voice role in an episode of the animated anthology The Boys: Diabolical. Smith will be getting back into the swing of his writing, directing, acting, and producing his projects with the upcoming Clerks III. The third entry in the Clerks franchise will see Dante, Elias, Jay, and Silent Bob being approached by Randal to make a movie about the convenience store where Clerks started. The movie will star Kevin Smith, Rosario Dawson, Jason Mewes, Brian O’Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, and more.

Kevin Smith also has a big TV series that he’s working on called Sam and Twitch. The series is based on the Spawn comics by Todd Macfarlane, which follows two NYC homicide detectives who investigate occult-related crimes. Smith plays triple-duty here, as he’s onboard as the producer, writer, and director.

Kevin Smith will also be returning to another popular IP of his with Twilight of the Mallrats. Twilight of the Mallrats will see Smith pulling quadruple duty again as he’ll be acting in the project as Silent Bob and he’ll be the writer, producer, and director of the film. Smith has confirmed that Ben Affleck will also be reprising his role from Mallrats as Shannon Hamilton. Other cast members that are set to appear in Twilight of the Mallrats include Ethan Suplee, Claire Forlani, Jason Lee, Joey Lauren Adams, Jeremy London, Renne Humphrey, and Jason Mewes.

Other projects on Kevin Smith’s plate include films titled Killroy was Here, Moose Jaws, and Helena Handbag. Killroy was Here is a horror anthology based on the “Kilroy was Here” graffiti, Moose Jaws is “like Jaws, but with a moose,” and Helena Handbag is an animated film about humanity teaming up with Hell to avoid extinction by a giant Jesus. Smith is on as the director and writer for all three of these upcoming projects. Here’s hoping that Smith gets well soon and that his experience with COVID is a mild one.
