British supermodel Kate Moss testified today in the contentious legal battle between estranged spouses Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Per Deadline, Moss was called to testify by Depp’s legal time and appeared via live video link. She was specifically asked about rumors of an alleged incident in which the actor was claimed to have thrown her down a flight of stairs while the two were on vacation at a resort in Jamaica. Counter to the rumors, Kate Moss stated that Depp had “never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any kind of stairs” and that in the incident in question, she had slipped and fallen. She further went on to say that Depp had come to her aid and got her medical assistance.

Kate Moss and Johnny Depp were in a four-year relationship in the 1990s and were at one point rumored to be engaged. At this point, Moss was at the height of her fame as the face of the then-popular heroin chic look and as a notable Calvin Klein model. Depp was then most famous as a star of indie films like Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man and John Waters’ Cry-Baby. They were known for having a somewhat contentious relationship, including a 1994 incident in which Johnny Depp trashed a New York City hotel room with Kate Moss present.

The Kate Moss-Johnny Depp alleged staircase incident was brought up in the Amber Heard case during testimony by the Aquaman actress. Per People, Heard alleged an incident occurred in 2015 that involved her sister Whitney Henriquez near a staircase; during an altercation with Depp, she stated that her sister got “in the line of fire … trying to get Johnny to stop.” According to Heard’s testimony, she remembered the rumor concerning Kate Moss and a staircase and intervened by punching Johnny Depp in the face. She also stated that she did this without hesitation and that it was the first time she had ever “actually hit” him. An audio recording introduced in the trial had Heard admitting to repeatedly hitting Depp “reactively,” while claiming he had hit her “proactively.”

Previously, Whitney Henriquez testified that Johnny Depp had hit her and “repeatedly” hit her sister. After Kate Moss’s brief testimony regarding the alleged staircase incident, Amber Heard’s legal team declined to cross-examine her. As can be expected from a court case involving two celebrities, a number of other famous individuals have been involved or rumored to be called to testify in the case, including actor Paul Bettany and Elon Musk.

It is difficult to say whether Kate Moss’s testimony will have any significant effect in the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard case. A judge recently denied Johnny Depp’s request to have Heard’s $100 million counter-suit against him dismissed, which presumably means however this particular trial goes, the following one will still be beginning and we might all be caught in this cycle of media coverage forever. We will continue updating with information related to the case as it comes.
