Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar certainly brought the West Coast vibes to the most recent Superbowl half-time show, but it’s hard to beat the high bar Jennifer Lopez and Shakira set in 2020. Their halftime show featured complex choreography, costume changes, a medley of both their greatest hits, special effects, and much more. Now, fans will be able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of their halftime show, along with an in-depth look at the milestones in Jennifer Lopez’s career. J. Lo herself took to Instagram to post the trailer, which you can check out below:
The Netflix documentary Halftime will be a sort of career retrospective for Jennifer Lopez. Though the Superbowl halftime show will serve as the centerpiece for the documentary, we’ll also get to see J. Lo’s emotional journey to reach that point. The title is a clever nod to both the halftime performance and the fact that J. Lo feels like her life is “just beginning,” as she’s hit the halftime of her career. In the clip, you also get a peek at J. Lo talking about dealing with the media and how the press has affected her. There’s even a cameo interview from her fiance Ben Affleck. In short, it looks like it’s going to be a great, comprehensive look at her life, career, and the work that went into putting together a dynamic halftime show. The documentary is directed by Amanda Micheli.
Jennifer Lopez has been plenty busy over the past couple of years. After the halftime show, she lined up a variety of acting projects. The most recent was Marry Me, which starred Lopez alongside Owen Wilson. Marry Me tells the story of a music superstar marrying a strange in a crowd after learning her fiance has been unfaithful before their big public wedding. In addition to Halftime, we’ll be getting two more movies from J. Lo soon She’s set to star in both Shotgun Wedding and The Mother both of which have 2022 release dates.
Shotgun Wedding is an action-comedy about a couple’s destination wedding getting hijacked by criminals. Jennifer Lopez stars alongside Jennifer Coolidge, Josh Duhamel, D’Arcy Carden, Callie Hernandez, Hector Anibal, Lenny Kravitz, Alex Mallari Jr, and more. Jason Moore directs with a screenplay by Mark Hammer and Elizabeth Meriwether. Shotgun Wedding should be coming out on June 29. The Mother will be a more dramatic turn for Lopez, as she plays an assassin that comes out of hiding to protect her daughter. The movie also stars Gael Garcia Bernal, Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick, and more. The Mother is directed by Niki Caro with a script by Andrea Berloff, Peter Craig, and Misha Green. There’s no release date yet but the film is expected in 2022.
We have even less time to wait to see Jennifer Lopez in Halftime. The documentary is opening at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival on June 8 and then will be available to stream on Netflix on June 14. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go listen to “Waiting for Tonight” on repeat.
