Armie Hammer

Remember when Armie Hammer was so wholesome, he could play the Lone Ranger and no one batted an eye? Today, Armie Hammer’s reputation has fallen so far that he has joined the ranks of Ted Bundy and Charlie Manson as the subject of a true-crime special coming from ID and Discovery+, according to a report by Entertainment Weekly. His alleged misdeeds certainly earned the attention, but the upcoming expose will reportedly reveal that the Hammer family has a long history of aberrant behavior, with Armie only the latest in what is being portrayed to be a long line of family deviants.

ID and Discovery+ have announced a new docudrama, titled House of Hammer, to be currently in production. The TV special will not only document Hammer’s personal scandal, but it also promises to delve into five generations of his famous family’s history. Using archival material and interviews with “survivors and family members,” House of Hammer will explore what a press release described as a “dysfunctional dynasty with its male characters exhibiting all the devastating consequences of privilege gone wild.” According to Playlist, Hammer’s family made its fortune when his grandfather Armand Hammer ran Occidental Petroleum beginning in the 1950s. The Houston-based company had close ties with Russia, the Middle East, and even the British royal family, and the TV special alleges the Hammer men have a history of secrets and scandals.

Armie’s scandal stems from a string of allegations against the actor made by a number of women, which have included screenshots he made from a secret Instagram account. In those screenshots, Armie Hammer allegedly discussed rape fantasies and cannibalistic urges with other women in a number of private messages. One of his former girlfriends, fashion app founder Courtney Vucekovich, went public with allegations that Hammer would repeatedly talk about wanting to eat small pieces of her flesh. “He said to me he wants to break my rib and barbecue and eat it,” she told Page Six.

An unidentified woman has also come forward, claiming Armie Hammer raped and abused her during a four-year relationship. The attack allegedly took place in Los Angeles in April of 2017, during which the woman (who is only known as “Effie”) claims she was raped and beaten by the now 35-year-old actor over the course of a four-hour period. The woman is now being represented by famed attorney Gloria Allred. In a statement to Page Six, Hammer called the allegations “bulls**t,” calling them vicious and spurious online attacks.” He formally denied the rape and abuse allegations through his attorney.

Needless to say, the scandal has forced Armie Hammer to quit a number of film and television projects and be fired from even more. He stepped away from starring in the Jennifer Lopez comedy Shotgun Wedding, although he claimed it was not due to the allegations, but because he wanted to spend more time with his two children that he shares with his ex-wife. He has also been replaced in the Broadway play The Minutes, Taika Watiti’s film Next Goal Wins, the Paramount+ series The Offer, and the film Billion Dollar Spy.

Before the rape allegation and accusations of cannibalism surfaced, Armie Hammer was one of Hollywood’s brightest faces. He had built an impressive film career with roles in The Social Network, Call Me By Your Name, Cars 3, and Death on the Nile. He got his start in acting as an extra on Arrested Development.
