Sony Has Added Some Of The Biggest Games To The New PlayStation Plus Tier
Every once in a while, the galactic bodies align, and Sony neglects their money-mongering practices to offer high-budget AAA gaming titles as part of their subscription

Subscribers to Sony’s PlayStation Plus service aren’t really surprised with Sony’s free monthly offerings and additions to the “free games” category. However, the vast majority of those titles are less-known releases that most fans either haven’t heard of or haven’t had the chance to play. But, every once in a while, the galactic bodies align, and Sony neglects their money-mongering practices to offer high-budget AAA gaming titles as part of their subscription, like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Ghost of Tsushima, or Red Dead Redemption 2.
With that said, IGN reported that Sony announced several high-budget games are coming to their PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers in their blog post. Among the 56 newly announced PS4 and PS5 video games in the Extra and Premium tiers, the most prominent titles include Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, and Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. Besides these, the Premium tier also has additional adds additional 29 Classic Catalogue games and another 29 PS3 games, finally making the latest generation of Sony’s hardware fully backward compatible — technically, at least.
It’s important to note that these additions aren’t really free; they come at the cost of a subscription. In the case of PlayStation Plus Extra, gamers would have to part with $100 (rounded from $99.99) and $120 for the Premium tier. That’s just how subscription services operate: they offer access to thousands of free games, some even high-budget, like Ghost of Tsushima, for a monthly fee of, let’s say, $120. It’s a bargain, but the other side of the coin states that you’re only paying for access to a thousand games since you can’t possibly play them all — it would take approximately 162 years to do so.
Despite access being the main selling point of subscription service all around, Sony also announced that it will offer time-limited trials with their Premium tier, allowing gamers to sample other AAA titles, like Horizon Forbidden West or Cyberpunk 2077, which finally made its way to Sony’s console. And these are just some of the titles since Sony originally announced over 700 gaming titles for their new subscription service — and this time, the company invested time and careful consideration into creating a service that would challenge the Xbox Game Pass.
For example, PS4 games will also have their distinct Classic Games Catalogue, with Sony placing remasters and collections in the same category as retro games. With Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Red Dead Redemption 2 included in the Premium, games like Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will also make their appearance, truly enriching the premium experience. However, Microsoft caught wind of PlayStation’s action and decided to play their own cards, restructuring the Game Pass.
The addition of the aforementioned titles is ultimately a welcomed one. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is perhaps one of the best Assassins’ Creed games ever made, while Red Dead Redemption 2 remains an extremely popular gaming choice, despite being four years old. This leaves us with the Ghost of Tsushima, a 5-star gaming title that’s strongly recommended to anyone in love with the Samurai mythos of the old Japan. All three will become available for the price of a Premium subscription once the service goes live in less then a month.
