A classic Tom Hanks movie is being rebooted, but with some brand-new elements added to it. That classic is none other than A League of Their Own. The female-led sports movie is one of the most talked-about sports films in cinema history and coined one of the most iconic lines in cinema history. Hanks plays the woman’s team manager, Jimmy Dugan, and he yells to one of the girls, “There’s no crying in baseball!” This new reboot will take on a new form as it is being turned into a series for Amazon Prime Video. And now we have been gifted the first look at the new Rockford Peaches, one of the teams in the first women-led American Baseball team. You can see the image below:

The original film saw Tom Hanks star alongside a huge cast that included Madonna, Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Rosie O’Donnell, Megan Cavanagh, Tracy Reiner, and many more. This new rebooted A League of Their Own brings in a brand-new cast that features Nick Offerman, Lil Frex, Kate Berlant, D’Arcy Carden, and Molly Ephraim. Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson have co-created the series, and Jacobson will also star in the series as well. Another thing of note for this new reboot is that the series will focus more on social issues that were problematic in the 1940s, which were heavily concerned with LBGTQ and racial subject matter.

Tom Hanks may have delivered one of the most iconic roles in the original film, but this series is meant to not serve as a traditional reboot that will replace his character. In fact, there is going to be more of a focus for the A League of Their Own show to be a standalone story that will expand more deeply on subject matter that was not covered in the film. Mainly the previously mentioned social issues that plagued the country in the 1940s. According to Will Graham, “Every single one of the women that we’ve spoken to and the stories that we’ve read, they knew that they were living at one of the most turbulent times in history, where things were changing radically around them — just like we are now.”

Although most of the cast is going to be new, it has been stated that Rosie O’Donnell is set to return to the series in a brand-new guest role. The actress revealed to Deadline back in 2021 that she would be portraying a bartender at a local gay bar. That could mean that she is meant to be featured in a handful of episodes if this bar is meant to be the watering hole for the team. It’s great to see that at least one of the legacy characters is returning, and that does not include Tom Hanks. Also, it would make sense that only Rosie plans to return considering the series is aiming to reboot this universe with its own direction.

A League of Their Own has no release date yet, but the rumor is that it will air on Prime Video this summer. Hopefully, that means within the next two months. We are excited to see if anyone else from the original film has a surprise cameo. We certainly need Tom Hanks to return and say his iconic line, even if he is some random patron in the crowd.
