It looks like Kate Beckinsale has another big project lined up for the near future. The star of the Underworld franchise will be taking on the spy genre in Canary Black, a film that was put together by production firm Anton’s Sebastien Raybaud and John Zois with Sentient Entertainment’s Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin. Pierre Morel, known for Taken and Peppermint, will be on as the director.
Canary Black will feature Kate Beckinsale as a CIA agent named Avery Graves who is blackmailed to betray her country. To save her husband from terrorists, she must use her underworld contacts to complete her mission. The script was written by Matthew Kennedy. There is no news on a release date or other cast members yet.
Kate Beckinsale recently starred in the Paramount+ series Guilty Party, which was released last year. The show told the story of discredited journalist latching on to the story of a mother in prison who might have been framed for the murder of her husband. In addition to Beckinsdale, the show also starred Jules Latimer, Tiya Sircar, Laurie Davidson, Andre Hyland, Alanna Ubach, Geoff Stults, and more. This was the last project that we’ve seen Beckinsdale in recently, but she has more on the way.
In addition to the recently announced Canary Black, Kate Beckinsale will also have a starring role in the upcoming comedy El Tonto. The movie is written and directed by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Charlie Day. The movie will tell the story of someone becoming an accidental celebrity and losing it all. The movie also stars Travis Fimmel, Jason Sudeikis, Katherine McNamara, Adrien Brody, John Malkovich, Ray Liotta, Glenn Howerton, Edie Falco, and more. There is no release date yet, but presumably, we’ll learn more about the film soon.
Finally, Kate Beckinsale has another role on her docket for the near future in Prisoner’s Daughter. This movie will be a drama about a father fighting for the love of his daughter and grandson after serving twelve years in prison. In addition to Beckinsdale, the film stars Brian Cox, Jon Huertas, Ernie Hudson, Tyson Ritter, Christopher Convery, Chuti Tiu, Mark Kubr, and more. Catherine Hardwicke directs, and Mark Bacci pens the script. This project also doesn’t have a current release date, but it is currently in the post-production stages.
Canary Black will be a great opportunity for Kate Beckinsale to get back into action mode. Her 2021 movie Jolt showed off her acting skills, but her upcoming movies look like they’ll be more drama and comedy focused. With her long tenure in the supernatural Underworld franchise, fans are surely anticipating seeing this return to form for the actress. Teaming up with the director of Taken seems like it will be the perfect fit for her. While the news on Canary Black is light right now, there will surely be some more news in the future as the film dives into production.
