We’ve got some huge news on the reboot front with a group of pretty iconic, and definitely hilarious folks about to reprise the roles that made them all famous in the first place. The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline have it that the stars of That 70s Show (or at least five out of six of them) will be coming back to their parts from the original show in the Netflix reboot series That 90s Show. It’s a huge move for the reboot series that will act as a successor to the Fox show, taking place in and around the kids back in the Forman household.

According to this latest reporting, Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon, and Wilmer Valderrama will all be back in their roles of Eric Forma, Jackie Burkhart, Michael Kelso, Donna Pinciotti, and Fez respectively. Conspicuously absent is Danny Masterson as Hyde who is currently slated to stand trial on rape charges. While were aren’t sure about just how much the original That 70s Show cast will have with this updated story, just the idea that they’ve all agreed to come back is news in and of itself. It lends a certain continuity to the series, allowing it to bridge the gap from the original. It wouldn’t have been necessary to bring them back for it to work, but this certainly lends a certain amount of credibility to the sequel.

That 90s Show will take place 15 (or so) years after the original series with the daughter of Grace’s Eric and Prepon’s Donna coming back to Point Place, Wisconsin to spend the summer with their grandparents. Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith are reprising their roles of Kitty and Red Forman from That 70s Show. It will be interesting to see if they’ve updated the home from the cliche 70s decor for a more “modern” 90s setting. The original series, which lasted eight seasons on Fox, saw very little in the way of updating even as they moved into the 1980s.

Callie Haverda will play Leia Forman (a Star Wars reference from Eric?), having been sent for the summer to her grandparents, picking up some of those That 70s Show vibes. It’s here that she’ll meet a new group, forming a new band of six just like in the first series. There will be Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Reyn Doi as Ozzie, and Sam Morelos. While they all represent different quasi-archetypes of that generation, it’s easy to see that Netflix is trying to maintain some of what worked from That 70s Show in terms of structure.

Production on That 90s Show has been underway for the last couple of months. Adding the That 70s Show crew now likely means that we will get them appearing sometime near the end of the first season, maybe at the end of the summer when they go to pick up Leia? That timing would make sense. In all, this is awesome news for fans of the series, a reunion of sorts for some of the more popular characters of a generation. Netflix hasn’t yet currently announced when That 90s Show will air on the streamer.
