The Witcher: Blood Origin spinoff series just had a leak, and we may have some information to make fans pretty excited.

Since its release in December of 2019, The Witcher has consistently been one of the most watched shows on Netflix (and in the world). Unsurprisingly, Netflix has taken that popularity as a green light to begin developing spin-offs of the show. Given that the series is based on a series of Polish fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski that currently has six novels and 15 short stories, they are certainly not short of material to do so. The first live-action spin-off, The Witcher: Blood Origin, was announced to be in development since 2020, and a trailer was released in December of 2021. However, there has not yet been word of an actual release date for the mini-series. It seems that a leak has been reported and we might actually start to have some idea when the prequel is coming out.
According to Redanian Intelligence, an inside source on The Witcher: Blood Origin has revealed Netflix is looking to target October 2022. While this is not confirmed, it is the first indication of any date that we have so far. Reportedly, the production had to go back in for several weeks of reshoots recently. While reshoots on any film or show tend to be assumed to mean some kind of breakdown or difficulty, they are actually a very normal part of the production process. Whether that is the case in The Witcher: Blood Origin, or there actually has been some kind of issue or rewrite that is causing delays is not yet known. A shoot as complex as the high fantasy world of The Witcher, with multiple non-human species and a whole bunch of castles and swamps can run into a lot of problems, but it also just takes a lot of work to get right.
The original Witcher series was renewed by Netflix for a third season in September 2021. Henry Cavill has starred as the title character, Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster-hunter and hunk, for the entirety of the show. Along with his portrayal of Superman/Clark Kent in the DCEU (which may be drawing to a close soon), it is far and away his most famous and popular role. Netflix does also have Cavill on the hook to continue to portray the world’s most jacked Victorian detective, Sherlock Holmes, in the upcoming Enola Holmes sequel with Millie Bobbie Brown. Henry Cavill is also set to star in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming ensemble spy thriller Argylle along with Dave Bautista, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Samuel L. Jackson.
According to Netflix, The Witcher: Blood Origin will be set some 1200 years before the events of the main series, and involve the creation of the first Witcher. The prequel series will star martial arts legend Michelle Yeoh as a nomadic sword elf on a mission, as well as Sophie Brown and Laurence O’Fuarain. While we cannot currently vouch for the leak that Netflix is looking to October of this year to release the show, it would seem likely for the general reported pace of the production. We will update you with more information as we receive it.
