How will audiences ever accept anyone other than Hugh Jackman as Wolverine? Fans are definitely split when it comes to where the story went with the live-action X-Men films that Fox made, but when it comes to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, the adoration is intense. While the actor is always ready to talk to fans about that role, he’s been very clear that he’s not coming back. With or without him, the X-Men are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So who will Marvel ever find to replace such a talent? Apparently, the studio has been listening to their fans. A trusted and proven inside source for Giant Freakin Robot shares that Taron Egerton is officially in talks with Marvel for Wolverine.
Finally. Fans have had Taron Egerton marked as a top choice for Marvel’s Wolverine for a long time. When it comes to casting, Marvel often says that they aren’t in a hurry, and they apparently mean it. It’s been a couple of years since Disney’s Marvel acquired Fox, and long before that deal was done, fans were demanding answers on what that meant for the X-Men team. The Multiverse has made that a lot more complex.
When can we expect to see Taron Egerton as Wolverine? Unfortunately, it’s still too early to know anything about that. At this point, the actor is in talks with the studio. That is the very early stages. Talks could fall through. We don’t know what Taron Egerton will want from the role, or that Marvel is necessarily set on casting him. We will still have to wait and see how the talks go, then, hopefully, more information about what movie or show he will debut in will be revealed.
We know that the other big question here is what this means for Hugh Jackman. If Taron Egerton plays Wolverine, will this rule out the chance of ever seeing Hugh Jackman sporting the claws once again? Not necessarily. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel, is close friends with Hugh Jackman. While the actor has insisted he’s done with the role, there’s room to hope that Kevin Feige could convince him to return, even just for a cameo. After all, the Multiverse brought us three Spider-Mans in No Way Home. We rule nothing out. Taron Egerton’s Wolverine and Hugh Jackman’s could be hanging out in any of the Marvel movies the studio currently has planned–and that slate runs all the way into 2032.
Even though Taron Egerton is only just now talking to Marvel about Wolverine, fan demand has been such that the actor has already addressed the potential casting in interviews. In 2020, he said it hadn’t happened yet, but that he’d heard fans wanted him in the role. He added that he does love Marvel. In early 2022, he again said that he hadn’t gotten there yet. Hopefully, he’ll sign on for the role, so that someday he can do an interview explaining how it feels to be asked about such an iconic role for years, and then actually have it happen. Getting the call for these talks must have been a surreal moment for Taron Egerton! We can’t wait to see how it works out.
