Call of Duty: Warzone has turned into arguably the biggest battle royale game in the world. Where once that land was dominated by Fortnite, games like Apex Legends and Warzone snuck their way into the fold. Especially Warzone. With the upcoming rumors that Call of Duty is set to reveal the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game, there are even more rumors that Call of Duty: Warzone 2 details are going to be released sometime soon as well. According to Activision “The new free-to-play Warzone experience, which is built from the ground-up alongside the premium game, features groundbreaking innovations to be revealed later this year.”
With no E3 happening this summer, this gives developers more time to showcase their new games in any way they see fit. Most of the time, gaming studios have been releasing their new demos and such via showcases that are live-streamed on YouTube, or just simply released. PlayStation seems to have a stranglehold on Call of Duty, so Warzone 2 might be revealed via the PlayStation “State of Play” showcases. The biggest aspect of this news is that the new battle royale mode will be built from the ground up. This is a truly interesting fact considering how successful Warzone already is. It sounds as if Activision is ready to go all-in with a brand-new Warzone game. The usual model for Call of Duty is to sort of taking what has already been established and build from there. However, that can become stagnant. It has also been reported that this will be the first year that CoD will not release a new game, breaking its long-standing yearly release schedule. This could mean that more time will be given to Warzone 2. You can see the initial announcement below:
Another thing of note from this announcement is that Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be offering these groundbreaking innovations as part of the Modern Warfare 2 package as well. Both titles are said to be using a new engine when they are released. This is certainly some good news considering how powerful PC and the new consoles are. It’s high time that a truly next-gen Call of Duty experience was released. Fans have long been criticizing the scope of Warzone, especially when it comes to stability. The game has also lacked plenty of “end game” content, and a host of other issues that includes mass amounts of cheaters, frame rate issues, and massive install sizes. All of this is said to be addressed when Warzone 2 drops with Modern Warfare 2. For real, just get rid of the fact that the game pushes nearly 500 gigs. That is insane.
Call of Duty: Warzone has truly turned into an innovative battle royale, but it is certainly not perfect, nor is the game itself. With the promises of completely retooling the game, with a new engine, fans might have far less to complain about. The Infinity Ward Twitter has gone dark, leaving many to wonder when the Modern Warfare 2 announcement will be made. It is likely Activision is waiting until a trailer can be produced for both entries. For now, we can all speculate about what might be groundbreaking in the next installment.
