Nicolas Cage Has An Exciting Face/Off 2 Update
Nicolas Cage has lit the internet on fire, as he has revealed some huge news when it comes to the upcoming Face/Off 2 sequel.
On the heels of the new Nicolas Cage movie in which he plays himself, there seems to be a reawakening of the appreciation for the man’s long-tenured work in Hollywood. Fans have been long clamoring for news that he would eventually make his way back to one of the best action movies he’s ever been in, Face/Off. Cage was interviewed recently about coming back for the eventual sequel. However, he was hesitant due to director John Woo not being involved. However, it appears as if the actor’s opinion has changed. The man has now revealed that he has had calls with the producer of the new sequel about returning. This is amazing news.
The Face/Off “reboot” was announced with Adam Wingard attached to direct. The famed director also handled the magnanimous duty of bringing Godzilla vs. Kong to life. Wingard announced that Face/Off would be a direct sequel to the original film, and they would not be trying to mess with the formula of the first film. That news led many to wonder if Nicolas Cage would be involved, now it appears as if he will be. According to Cage, “[A Face/Off sequel] I can talk about because, there have been some phone calls with Neal [Moritz], who I enjoyed very much working with on the first Face/Off. He’s somebody, he’s one of the true, great producers in Hollywood. And, they have been making some calls.” It appears as if talks are going the way that Cage and fans want them to go. This also begs another question; will John Travolta be on board too?
John Travolta took on the role of Sean Archer, an FBI agent tasked with hunting the infamous Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage). During the first movie, the pair trades faces, and now Archer is Castor Troy. He must pretend to be the mass murderer to bring down his criminal organization and stop a bomb from going off. However, Troy wakes up and takes Archer’s face. The film then goes off the rails with action as both men try to destroy each other’s lives while assuming each other’s identities. It’s truly a masterclass in cheesy 90s action films. The odd thing in this equation is that Troy was essentially killed at the end of the film, so how is he going to be brought back? We are meant to suspend disbelief when watching movies, but hopefully, that answer can be cleverly answered.
Face/Off was released in 1997, and still holds a 92% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score is also a respectable 82%. Apart from The Rock, Face/Off remains one of the best Nicolas Cage films ever made. It is quite exciting that he is essentially in talks to reprise his role as Castor Troy. Bringing John Travolta back would be amazing too. It has also been reported that Joan Allen, who played Sean Archer’s wife in the film, is also waiting to get the call to return for the sequel. Clearly, this sequel is one that all parties from the original want to return to. Now if they can only bring back John Woo in some fashion. He could potentially come back in as a producer in some consulting role. Make it happen.
