There have been plenty of Ghostbusters games released through the decades. Fans of the franchise were able to take on the roles of the famed characters from the films or be someone else entirely. With how advanced gaming is these days, especially when it comes to how expansive virtual reality is, it was only a matter of time until someone released Ghostbusters in this medium. That is exactly what is happening with the brand-new Ghostbusters VR experience that is being worked on for the Oculus. Developer nDreams showcased a quick cinematic trailer to give fans a taste of what it would be like to take control of a proton pack. You can see the video below:
Honestly, this is one of the most exciting VR trailers that has been released so far. Ghostbusters is a hugely popular franchise and one that sees plenty of Halloween costumes every year. There are even social groups dedicated to the society of those who love the films, shows, and games. That is how big this hit 1980s film became, and what it spawned. On the heels of the newest entry, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was basically a nostalgia overload, it’s great to see the franchise is still alive and well in people’s hearts. While we only got a taste of what it will look like to control a proton pack, there are more details to be revealed soon for Ghostbusters VR.
Ghostbusters VR will take place in San Francisco and offers players a chance to take on the life of a real-life Ghostbuster, as you and three friends can team up to track, blast, and trap ghosts using some of the most iconic equipment from the franchise. From the above trailer, we only get a quick look at the proton pack, but there are sure to be some ghost traps being used to trap all the spooky specters that are causing mayhem in the city. The game can be played with up to three people in co-op or played solo. The game promises a brand-new adventure that has yet to be seen. There is no telling if any classic characters from the films will show up. However, if this game wants to stand out, get Bill Murray. Most people don’t own Oculus VR kits, but if Mr. Murray is involved, we might be way more inclined to run out and buy this new gaming system.
Ghostbusters VR does not have a release date yet, but the hope is that it will come blasting into stores sometime around the holidays, as is most developers’ goals when releasing new games. The Meta Quest 2, on the other hand, is available for purchase right now. The Quest 2 comes in two versions. The 128 GB version retails for $299 and the 256 GB version retails for $399. One of the most anticipated games is that of Among Us VR, which is set to release soon. That, and now the Ghostbusters VR game joins the growing list of games we absolutely want to play in virtual reality.
